Special Persons Night and Book Fair:

Thank you to everyone that was able to join us for Special Persons Night! It was a great evening!

Second Grade Program:

Thank you to all of the families that attended our second grade program! The students did an amazing job! We are so proud of them! Thank you to Mrs. Titus, Mrs. Paul and the second grade teachers for their efforts in getting the program organized!

Lost and Found:

Our Lost and Found collection is getting pretty big! We have encouraged students to check it out to gather any items that may belong to them. Please remind your student to check it out on their way to lunch each day! At the end of next week, anything left will be donated.

Important Car Rider Information:

Just a reminder that car riders need to stay in the line for arrival and dismissal. Families and students should not park and walk students into the building or get out of their cars in the line. Only students that are leaving early for appointments are permitted to be picked up in the office, all other students will need to be picked up in the car line during afternoon dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation in keep students safe.

IREAD Tutoring

Just a reminder that IREAD tutoring for grades 2 and 3 starts tomorrow! IREAD tutoring is scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays for the next 6 weeks. Students that are car riders can be picked up at the front entrance at 4:15, all other students will be transported to the Boys and Girls Club/Girls, Inc. Students will be provided a snack before tutoring begins! We look forward to providing this support to our Hurricanes!

IREAD Testing:

Students in grade 2 and 3 will be participating in IREAD testing the week of March 2-6. Attendance is very important during this time. Please make every effort to have your student at school on time during this week! Students and staff have worked hard this year! I know everyone will do great!

4th and 5th Grade Families:

Due to the snow days, Puberty Education for grades 4 and 5 has been rescheduled for April. Thank you for your understanding.

Birthday Treats:

Per the SCS Elementary Handbook, birthday treats are not permitted in the classroom. Students may bring in small nonedible items like pencils or stickers to share with everyone, but due to allergies and other restrictions we ask that food items are not brought into class. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Smart Watches and Cell Phones:

Just a reminder that smart watches and cell phones need to either remain at home or be turned off and stored in student backpacks during the day. Thank you for your help!

Attendance:

As we are getting further into the year, families will start receiving emails and/or text communication regarding attendance. The communication sent from School Status Attend is notification of the total number of days your students has not been present at school. This communication does not indicate excused or unexcused. It is just a total number of missed days. We document excused, unexcused and doctor's notes in our system and use that to determine when or if an attendance meeting needs to be held. If you have any questions regarding your student's attendance, please contact Hendricks.

Reminders for the 2025-2026 School Year:

  • If you have any changes to your student's transportation information, please contact the front office.

  • Remember that students may only bring water in water bottles to be used in the classroom. Other drinks can be brought for lunch. No soda please!

  • If your child will not be at school, please remember to call in to let us know so the absence can be excused. Each student gets up to 10 excused absences each year with no doctor's note. Please contact the office if you have any questions about attendance.

  • If questions or concerns arise throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Tilley, Mrs. Fosnight or your student's teacher. The home/school partnership is essential for the success of everyone! We thank you for your support and willingness to be our partner in your student's education!

We are providing Universal Free Breakfast for all Shelbyville Central students this year!

We encourage all families, regardless of income, to complete and submit a short, confidential school meal application prior to the start of the school year to ensure that there are no gaps in meal benefits for students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Parents or guardians can submit this application online at https://nutrilinktechnologies.com/products/free-and-reduced/ during Registration or in person at your child’s school office. It’s an easy and confidential way to ensure your child stays well-nourished at school.
