Principal's Hello
Dear Golden Eagle Families,
This week our staff did a handful of trainings, including a full-day district workshop on standards-based grading. We feel ready for the year, despite the changes that came our way: a district-wide shift to standards-based grading, iPads remaining at school, interim assessments. There's more, but I won't bore you!
I will relay my observations about these changes as we move through the year. I'm hopeful that, in the end, these things just make our school better and our district stronger and more coherent.
I'm thrilled to start another year—my fifth here at PCMS—in partnership with you all. I can't wait to see the 6th graders on Wednesday!
Sean
Stay Connected with PCMS!
One of our goals at PCMS is to keep students and families informed and up to date throughout the school year. We will continue to share News From the Nest each Friday afternoon with important reminders, updates, and information about what is happening at school.
BLS School District has changed communication platforms. We will now use ParentSquare for district and school communications with families. ParentSquare is a user friendly and customizable platform that allows you to choose how you receive school updates and communications.
With the start of the school year, this first edition of News From the Nest may feel like a lot of information. We encourage you to take some time to read through it, as well as the BLS Family Spotlight, and refer back to these resources throughout the year for important news and updates.
Student Schedules Are Live!
Schedules went live on Thursday, and we know students are excited to see them.
Please be aware that changes to your student's schedule may still occur as final adjustments and balancing classes are still occurring. 7th and 8th grade students will receive their printed schedule on the first day of school when they arrive.
Building a master schedule is an intricate process that takes 100’s of hours of work. Even seemingly minor changes can have a dramatic effect. Due to its complexity, we are not accepting any schedule changes. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

New to PCMS as a 7th or 8th Grader?
Pacific Crest will be hosting a brief orientation session for new 7th and 8th grade Pacific Crest students on Wednesday, September 9th, from 1:30-2:15 pm. School is in session for our 6th graders on this day; therefore this opportunity is for students only. Parents will be able to see the building and meet teachers in September during our open house.
During the orientation, new students will receive their schedules, test out lockers, tour the building, and get to meet some of our wonderful 8th grade WEB leaders. Families will need to provide transportation to and from Pacific Crest. If you would like your student to participate in this, please fill out this form to register your student for orientation. If you have any questions, contact our main office at (541)-355-7804.
We look forward to meeting your student and welcome your family to the Pacific Crest Community!
Warmly,
Pacific Crest Student Services
A Word From Nurse Oliver
As students prepare to return to school, this is a great time for families to review the Health & Wellness information available on the Bend La Pine Schools website. There you can find answers questions like: When must I keep my student home if they’re ill? What immunizations are required in middle school? What are the rules for medications at school?
If your student will require medications at school, you are welcome to avoid the rush by bringing them in before the first day of school. Our main office is open from 8am to 4pm on weekdays (we’ll be closed on Labor Day). All medications and forms will be reviewed by the nurse.
Still have questions? Please reach out to our consulting Registered Nurse, Oliver Tatom: oliver.tatom@bend.k12.or.us.
Attendance at PCMS: Everything You Need to Know
Forgotten Items & Daily Deliveries
As we get ready to start the new school year, we wanted to share a quick reminder about how we handle items that are forgotten at home or need to be delivered to students during the school day.
We know that mornings can be busy, and occasionally a student may forget something they need. However, a high volume of deliveries can quickly overwhelm our front office staff.
Please help us by reminding your student to bring everything they will need for the school day and after-school activities when they leave home each morning.
If Your Student Needs Something During the School Day
If your student truly needs an item delivered during the school day, they may come to the Attendance Office and use the school phone to contact you and request it. Students are also expected to use the Attendance Office phone to call home if they are ill.
PLEASE NOTE: Students will receive a technology violation for texting or calling home about a forgotten item during the school day or for using their cell phone to report that they are sick.
Once an item has been dropped off:
- The item will be placed on a cart in the front office.
- Students may pick up their items during passing periods or after school.
Food & Beverage Deliveries
We will not accept food or beverage deliveries from DoorDash, Uber Eats, or similar services. These deliveries will be turned away.
Thank you for helping us establish these expectations from the start of the school year. Your cooperation helps keep our front office running smoothly and allows our staff to focus on supporting students throughout the day.
We appreciate your help!

Ready, Set, Play! Fall Sports at PCMS
THIS WEEK: Fall sports are here! Pacific Crest is proud to offer volleyball for 7th and 8th grade, football for 7th and 8th grade, and cross-country for all grade levels. Practice has already begun for football and volleyball, and cross-country practice will begin next Thursday. Registration closes on Friday, September 11th, so now is the time to register! Remember, all student-athletes need a current sports physical (within the last two years) on file to participate. For more information, please visit out athletics website.
NEXT WEEK: Girls’ wrestling is here! Now an OSAA-sanctioned sport, we will be splitting boys’ and girls’ wrestling into two distinct seasons. Girls’ wrestling will take place during November and December and we will be opening registration from September 14-30. In order to have our own Pacific Crest team, we will need 10 or more registrations, so consider signing up as soon as Monday! Questions? Feel free to reach out to our Athletic Director, Jason Deaner, for more information.
The Student Spectator Guide to HS Games
We are excited to see students showing up to support our district teams this fall! Your school spirit and positive energy help make our athletic events special. To ensure a safe, positive, and enjoyable experience for everyone, please review and follow these important expectations for attending sporting events.

- Game Tickets: Digital tickets should be purchased in advance at www.bit.ly/sh-athletics.
- Leave These at Home: Backpacks, skateboards, balls, and oversized bags are not permitted. Any bags brought into the stadium may be subject to search.
While You’re at the Game
- Stay In, No Re-Entry: Once inside the stadium, beginning 30 minutes before game time, students may not leave and re-enter.
- Stay in the Stands: Students are expected to remain in designated spectator areas and should not roam or loiter throughout the facility.
- Be a Positive Fan: Show great sportsmanship! Cheer for your team while being respectful of opponents, officials, and fellow fans. Please review the OSAA Sportsmanship Guidelines.
- Follow the Rules: School expectations and rules apply at athletic events just as they do during the school day. Please review the BLS Student Code of Conduct.
Thank you for helping us create a fun, respectful, and welcoming environment for our student-athletes, families, and fans.
