Parenting Tips and Information
Why Literacy Matters
Research has found that young children whose parents read to them daily have been exposed to at least 290,000 more words by the time they enter kindergarten than kids who aren't read to regularly. And depending on how much daily reading time kids get, that number can go up to over a million words.
Reading and storytelling helps toddlers learn about speech sounds, words, language, pictures and books. Reading stories stimulates imagination, develops social skills and helps toddlers learn about the world. Try to read daily. Give toddlers time to look at, describe and talk about what's happening in books.
Parent Empowerment Series
The WCFCC is hoping you will join us throughout the year as we host various presenters who will provide information, strategies and ideas designed to empower you through your parenting struggles. These series will bring you together with other families who may have the same questions or concerns and find themselves struggling and looking for concrete strategies to assist them in their daily parenting life. We encourage everyone to engage in discussions, share their struggles/triumphs, ideas and strategies that may or may not have worked for them and be open to new ideas and information from our presenters.
Positive Solutions for Families
Many families struggle with big emotions, tantrums, and difficulty with transitions. These big emotions can be overwhelming for both you and your child. Let our Positive Solutions for Families presenters Mrs. Costa LMHC (Child Life Counselor) and Mrs. Magner (Special Education Teacher) help you learn how to incorporate positive behavior support strategies that will help improve behavioral success through non-punitive and proactive techniques. We will discuss ways to help children recognize and manage their emotions, develop coping skills, and reduce challenging behaviors through consistent routines, clear expectations, and supportive strategies.

Story/Time Playgroup
Story Time Playgroup helps your child's development in many ways.
Storytime has many benefits for children other than promoting early literacy and language development. It can help develop their concentration, social skills, communication skills, and encourages their imagination and creativity.
Play based learning recognizes that children learn best through active engagement and exploration in meaningful and enjoyable content. As children play, they engage their imagination, take risks and learn problem solving to support their development.
A music- rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving bring serious benefits to children as they progress to more formal learning.

Gross Motor Development
Just Play E.I. helps your child to develop their large muscle groups and work on their balance and coordination.
Physical development
Gross motor skills help children develop their posture, balance, and coordination. They also help children learn to move smoothly and efficiently from one position to another.
Gross motor skills involve the large muscles in the arms, legs, and torso. Some examples of gross motor skills include:
Standing
Walking
Running
Sitting upright
Jumping
Twisting your torso
