Alward Action

We have so many things going on in PE! 3rd and 4th graders have begun using Heart Rate Monitors to see how their effort effects their heart rates and we're wrapping up our nutrition unit learning about the 5 Food Groups and Go, Slow and Whoa foods. The PE Apparel sale begins today and goes through November 9. Shirts will be here before the holidays and they make great gifts! Also, the PE CARES Food Drive will be coming up along with our Bowling unit. Stay tuned for more information about the food drive!

Please join us out front of the Alward Elementary office on Friday, October 30 at 1:30 PM for our annual Costume Parade! 👻🦇🍂

We’d love to have our families join us and cheer on our students as they show off their costumes!

Please do not pass out candy or treats to students during the parade.

☔ Please note: The parade will be cancelled if it rains.

We can’t wait to see all of our little Eagles in their costumes! 🦅🎃

We’re excited to introduce a new event for Alward families coming in March 2027—and we need your help to make it a success!

We are seeking new and gently used, age-appropriate books for ages 2–12 to help stock our Books & Bingo event. If you have books at home that your kids have outgrown, we’d love to give them a new home with an Alward family!

Have books to donate?

Simply drop them off in the donation box outside the Alward Elementary office entryway labeled “Books & Bingo!”

Every book donated will help us create a fun and exciting event for our Alward families. Thank you for helping us bring this new event to life!

Read. Play. Bingo!

Due to the number of food allergies in the school, we ask that you please bring in non food items for birthday treats. Please see examples below.

NO FOOD/CANDY BIRTHDAY TREATS WILL BE ALLOWED.

This holiday season, we invite you to wrap our community in support. Your generosity brings hope, dignity, and meaningful connection to families in our community facing challenges. If you are looking for ways to give back and uplift families in our area, please consider supporting one of the organizations Below.

Love Your Neighbor Community Christmas

Community Christmas through Love Your Neighbor is a joyful event that helps local families shop for gifts and experience connection during the holiday season. Donate, learn more, or get involved at the Love Your Neighbor website.

Toys for Tots

Many of our district families will have the opportunity to choose their child’s gifts at the local Toys for Tots Distribution. Donate new, unwrapped toys at Harley Davidson of Grand Rapids in Hudsonville.

Threads Clothing Ministry

Many families benefit from Threads, a clothing ministry that provides apparel and personal care items. Threads is always in need of new socks and underwear for children and adults. Monetary donations are also welcome. Contact Jill Austin via email for more information.

Snack Donations

Many students go without snacks during the school day. Donations of individually wrapped, healthy, nut-free snacks help keep students focused and ready to learn. Consider donating snacks to your child’s building. HERE is Alward's Wishlist.

As the holiday season approaches, we want to ensure our families are connected with resources in our community. We’ve listed a few local holiday support opportunities below. We encourage you to review the options and choose the program that best fits your family’s needs this season. To help ensure that these resources can reach as many children and families as possible, we kindly ask that each family sign up for only one holiday assistance program.
