Decatur County Museum
3rd Graders' Visit - October 2 and 5, 2023
Mrs. Wahlmeier's Class
Teacher for a Day
Third grade standards in social studies focus on communities and local history: Societies are shaped by the identities, beliefs, and practices of individuals and groups.
Debbie Withington's and Kerrie Wahlmeier's third graders have learned about different communities and are now studying the history of their own, which took them to the Decatur County Museum last week. Museum board member Dick Carman gave them a tour of the museum with its 16 buildings.
The third graders will choose an exhibit at the Decatur County Museum that they would like to learn more about. They will collect information on their exhibit, interview people, and create a project - a trifold, shadow box, diorama, legos sculpture, etc.
The Atwood third graders will then come over and go through our museum, and the Oberlin third graders will become "Docents for a day." Each of the Oberlin third graders will be set up at their exhibit and present to the Atwood third graders. They will then go to the Atwood museum as well to learn from them.
