Welcome to the 2024/2025 School Year!!!

DMS welcomed back teachers on Wednesday, and the energy is amazing in the building! It is going to be a great year!!

Couple of changes this year at Dowell:

  1. We will no longer allow cell phones during passing periods or during instructional time. Students may use their cell phones before or after school, and at lunch. Please be mindful when contacting your child throughout the day. Office phones are always available for our students should an emergency arise.

  2. Middle Schools will begin using Student ID badges when we return from Labor Day. Our school picture company will be here on August 23 to take our school pictures, and will in turn make our badges. 7th and 8th grade students will have a $5 replacement fee for any lost badge. Our 6th grade students will be given only one free replacement, and will then be charged the $5 fee. Students will have to wear them to enter the building, and to leave class for any reason. Also, students must show their ID to get into all athletic events throughout MISD starting this year.

Here is the schedule for Tuesday Night:

  • 3:00 pm Lion Pride Camp (6th grade only).

    • 3:00 pm Pep Rally for students/Parent Meeting in Cafeteria.

    • 3:30 ish Everyone (Parents and Students) will start in 1st period. We will have signs posted to help you find your first period class. A copy of the student's schedule will be given out during that 1st period.

    • We will run our 7 period bell schedule with 4 min passing periods. (It is important that you stick with the schedule.)

    • Please plan to leave at the conclusion of the event, as we have 7th and 8th grade families coming in.

    • Schedules will also be available in HAC.

    • Pre-ordered supplies will be available for pick up in the cafeteria.

  • 5:30 pm Meet the Teacher Night

    • Come and Go Event.

    • Be sure to visit with Fine Arts and Athletics before you leave.

    • Schedules will be available in HAC.

    • Pre-ordered supplies will be available for pick up in the cafeteria.

School starts on Thursday!!! We are ready!! Go Lions!!!

Your child’s schedule will be viewable in the Home Access Center (HAC).

ALL schedules are available on August 6th at 8:00 AM.

All schedules are subject to change and official schedules are distributed to students the first day of school. We hope that few, if any, changes will be necessary at that point, but there is always a possibility.

If you have a question about your child’s schedule after August 6th, contact your house counselor via EMAIL. If you need to visit in person, please call and schedule a conference time.

*Sometimes students have to make choices if the schedule does not allow them to take every course they prefer.

Priority is given to academic course level errors or actual schedule errors for schedule changes.

Carpool Procedures

All carpool traffic goes through the front drive of the building.

The back of the building is reserved for bus traffic only.

  • The blue cones will separate the two carpool lanes. The lane closest to the building allows for direct student drop off. Please follow the directions of our staff members and pull all the way into the curve of the drive. The second lane (closest to Ridge) is for student drop off in the south parking lot or to exit. Students dropped off in the south parking lot must walk to the crosswalk to safely cross traffic.
  • Please be patient with one another. Our first priority is student safety, not speed, but carpool generally works quickly once the students and parents learn the routine.
  • Only use our designated crosswalk at all times to cross traffic.
  • Cell phone use is prohibited in school zones, including the carpool lane.
  • At dismissal ask your child to be looking for you, so we can keep cars moving.
  • Cell phone use is prohibited in school zones, including the carpool lane.
