BEAR MAIL
Friday, October 30th
Message from Principal Fippin
Hi Everyone,
Wow, today was a fantastic day! Seeing all the costumes and the excitement is so much fun. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch our parade today and to those who volunteered in the classrooms to make today so special. For those going out trick-or-treating tomorrow night, make sure you always follow the BCE Way: Be Safe, Responsible, Respectful, and Kind.
We also celebrated the life skill of honesty at our assembly on Thursday. It was great to celebrate our kids and see our school spirit. Next month we will celebrate and practice gratitude.
Please join Ms. Callahan and other staff members for a Ruby Bridges Walk-to-School Day on Friday, Nov. 13th. We will begin at the BC Rec Center at 7:45 and walk up to school together to honor Civil Rights pioneer Ruby Bridges and encourage community conversations about anti-racism, anti-bullying, and inclusion.
Reminder: We don't have school on Monday. It is a teacher Professional Development day. We will see everyone on Tuesday. We also turn our clocks back this weekend. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep. :)
Have a great weekend,
Gerri Fippin

BCE Life Skills Assembly!
On Thursday, we celebrated BCE Bears for having discussions and reading books about how important it is to be honest. We're proud of our BCE Bears for practicing being honest. In November, our focus will be thinking of ways we can show gratitude to those around us.
Drumming Celebration in November
On November 18th, we will celebrate the end of our drumming classes with performances during the school day. You are welcome to come to the performance that your student is participating in. Please honor this so that we have space for families to see their student perform. BIG thank you to Ibou for teaching our BCE Bears and thank you to our amazing Parents Club for supporting this great opportunity.

BCE Multicultural Club Celebrates Día de Muertos!
Thank you to the BCE Parents Club for your support! This week, our BCE Multicultural Club learned about Día de Muertos, a Mexican holiday for family and friends to gather and pay respects and remember loved ones who have died. Multicultural Club students enjoyed delicious pan dulce and Mexican hot chocolate, while making their own ofrendas to honor loved ones.
Día de Muertos is a tradition with deep roots in Indigenous Mexican cultures that has evolved through cultural blending, and is celebrated in Mexico and in communities throughout the United States and beyond. Learning about the holiday helps children understand that families and communities around the world have different ways of honoring loved ones who have died. It also helps students recognize and appreciate the cultural traditions of classmates and neighbors.
Winter Break
Our school is making sure we are prepped and ready for the potentially rough upcoming storm season. This is a good time to remind our families that Winter Break does not start until Monday, December 21st.
Friday, December 18th is a built in Storm Day. If we have a school day canceled between now and December 17th, then the 18th becomes a school day.
We are excited to invite our students, families, staff, and community to the SLVHS Fall Festival on Friday, October 30th, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the SLVHS campus!
The Fall Festival will be a fun community event featuring booths hosted by SLVHS clubs and grade-level classes, with food, games, activities, arts & crafts, music, and more!
This is also a great fundraiser for our students. All money raised at the festival will go directly to SLVHS clubs and classes, so coming out and participating is a fun way to support our students and their programs.

Don't Forget the Rules for Drop off and Pick up
Drop Off and Pick Up
We have had several issues the past couple of weeks at both drop off and pick up. Please know that all of us out at the cross walk are only trying to keep our students and families safe. I wanted to remind everyone to please first be Kind and Patient. Here are a few reminders about pick up and drop off
- You can drop off on either side of Laurel Street.
- You can NOT drop off coming up on Lomond street.
- You can only leave your car in designated parking spots on Laurel street.
- Make sure you are not parking in front of our neighbors drive ways
- On Lomond Street, you need to park in the right direction. Buses are not able to get through when cars are away from the side and parked in the wrong direction.
- When walking down Lomond Street please use the sidewalk. We have had a few close calls with kids and parents walking in the center of the street.
Thank you everyone for helping ensure safety of all of our students. Below is the parking map again for reference.
Food Services and Bus Passes
We will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students this year. We do ask that you complete the application on the district webpage. It is very important that ALL families complete this form, as it helps us with funding in several different areas.
If your child will be riding the bus this year and will need a bus pass, please make sure you purchase your bus pass online here. Once you log in to LinqConnect you will see "School Store" on the bottom right hand corn. Click that to buy your pass. Any questions contact the transportation department at 831-336-2223
Please also complete the following form for all students riding the bus.
