Spring Creek BBQ Spirit Night Coming Soon!
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 29th and join us for Hayes Elementary Spirit Night at Spring Creek Barbeque in Katy! Bring the whole family and enjoy dinner anytime from 5:00–9:00 p.m. while supporting JHE. Spring Creek will donate 20% of the evening’s proceeds back to our school!
Be sure to sign in at the front door when you arrive. The class with the best attendance will earn a special prize from Spring Creek! Don’t forget to look for some of your favorite Hayes teachers and staff serving fresh bread in the dining room throughout the evening! Check out the volunteer schedule to see when you can catch them in action. We hope to see lots of our Hayes Hawks there for a fun night of food, friends, and school spirit!
We are excited to give our Hayes families a closer look at what’s happening in each grade level this year! Our grade level curriculum slideshows include helpful information about daily schedules, JHE expectations, classroom procedures, and the learning your child will experience throughout the year. Counselor's Corner
The September Character Trait is Respect. We are learning that everyone has value and should be treated with care and kindness. Respect is one of the most important qualities we can practice every day. Showing respect means treating others the way we want to be treated, using kind words, listening when someone is speaking, and appreciating our differences. At school, respect helps create a safe and welcoming environment where everyone can learn and grow. Students can show respect by following rules, taking care of school property, and including others in activities and games. Respect also means being responsible for our actions and showing kindness even when we may disagree with someone. When we choose respect, we strengthen our friendships, build a positive school community, and help everyone feel valued and important. Together, let's make showing respect a habit that we practice every day!

🩺💗 A Note from Nurse Neumann:
With students returning to campus and lots of friends learning together, illnesses can spread quickly! We’ve already seen some viral illnesses circulating, so we’d like to remind everyone of the Katy ISD 24-Hour Illness Policy:
🌡️Fever: Students must be fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.
🤢 Vomiting or Diarrhea: Students must be free from vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
💊 Antibiotics: If your child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness and prescribed antibiotics, please notify the school nurse and follow your healthcare provider’s guidance regarding when they may safely return to school.
🏠When in doubt, rest it out! Giving your child time to fully recover helps protect them, their classmates, and our staff from the spread of illness.
Thank you for helping us keep our school community happy, healthy, and ready to learn!

Chromebook Insurance
Parents can opt-in for accidental insurance for the Chromebook and must select this option during Annual Student Update or New Student Enrollment. The insurance must be paid within 30 days after the student's first day of attendance and will not cover intentional damage. Insurance fee(s) will be paid in the District's Pay 'N Go application and insurance coverage will not begin until payment is recieved. Failure to pay within 30 days after the first day of attendance will result in your student's device not being covered for the entire school year. Once insurance is selected and your record has been approved, you will recieve an email with instructions on how to pay for the fee in Pay 'N Go.
Insurance is valid until the last day of summer related to the current school year or until it is depleted.
If you did not select insurance and would like to add it, you have 30 days after your student's first day of attendance to add it and complete payment. You can send an email to changemyrequest@katyisd.org and provide the following information:
- Student's name:
- Student's ID:
- Student's Campus:
Volunteer Registration
Katy ISD is grateful for the thousands of volunteers who make a difference in our schools each year. To help maintain a safe and secure environment for our students and staff, all volunteers serving on or off campus during or outside the instructional day are required to register annually through the district's Raptor volunteer management system. A valid government-issued photo ID and email address are required to complete registration. Your information will remain confidential and will not be shared outside of the volunteer program, except for applicants who register as a Community Volunteer (not a parent, grandparent, or guardian of a current Katy ISD student) or as a KEYS Mentor. For these volunteer roles, the information required to complete a background check will be shared only with our authorized background screening provider, JDP.
Once registered and approved, volunteers can:
• Sign up as a campus volunteer by completing the volunteer recruitment form provided by their campus organization(s) or by contacting the campus volunteer coordinator.
• Track volunteer hours through their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus where they serve.
• Quickly and easily submit individual off-campus volunteer hours.

SMARTtag Parent App
The SMARTtag app will send notifications to registered mobile devices and tablets, providing parents with instant updates about bus delays, route alterations, or emergencies. Parents who already have a SMARTtag account will be able to use the same log-in information on the app. Parents may download the app via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
We highly recommend if you have a student who rides the bus, you utilize this App.
Tardies
Students are expected to arrive at school on time and be in their classroom by 7:50 a.m. Any child entering the building after 7:50 a.m. will be considered tardy.
Parents/legal guardians of students arriving to school after the 7:50 a.m. tardy bell, will be asked to park and accompany the student into the building and report to front office to sign in. Please plan for extra time on rainy/bad weather days as our car rider line is longer on these mornings. Please note, that the closer it gets to 7:50, the longer the line can get, so arrive early to ensure your child is not late.
Car Rider Reminders
- Always have the car tag hanging from the rear view mirror (parents without tags will have to park and go to office to check out a student).
- To keep too many cars off of the main street, cars will file into the car rider line in 2 rows.
- Cars will zipper merge into one row by the marquee.
- Staff members will motion for you to pull up to the designated pick-up station.
