2025-26 STUDENT DEVICE INSURANCE FEE 2025-26 STUDENT DEVICE INSURANCE FEE

User uploaded image

As we begin the 2025–26 school year, students are required to pay the annual device insurance fee for student devices. Families who complete the Free & Reduced Lunch form will have this fee waived.

The primary reason Meade School District promotes the completion of free and reduced lunch form is to secure funding and ensure students have access to essential resources. These applications also help schools access additional funding, which can be used for various educational programs and resources beyond just meals.

Annual Device Insurance Fee

To help cover the cost of normal wear and tear or case replacements:

  • $25 per student or

  • $50 maximum per family (non-refundable, annual fee) or

  • Waived Fee: Completion of the Free & Reduced Lunch Form

🔹 Note: Any unpaid fees will remain on your student’s account until paid.

If you have any questions, please contact your school’s main office.

Meade School District Implements New Cell Phone and Digital Device Policy to Support Student Learning and Well-Being

In an effort to create a more focused, inclusive, and safe learning environment, the Meade School District has adopted a new policy—School Policy JFCK: Cell Phones and Portable Digital Media Devices—that limits the use of personal electronic devices during school hours.

The policy, now in effect across all schools in the district, is designed to minimize classroom distractions, promote mental health, and ensure equitable access to learning. Under the new rules, students are prohibited from using personal devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, and portable media players during instructional time and in other school settings where learning or safety could be impacted. All students are expected to keep their devices powered off and stored out of sight throughout the school day. Smartwatches must be switched to Airplane or School Mode to prevent distractions and maintain focus during instruction.

The district encourages parents to partner with schools in reinforcing these expectations. For full details, parents and guardians can access Policy JFCK and individual school handbooks via the Meade School District’s official website

Sturgis Brown High School’s dress code is designed to support a safe, healthy, and focused learning environment while respecting students’ right to self-expression. Students are encouraged to dress in a manner that reflects maturity and responsibility, provided their clothing does not disrupt the educational process, pose safety risks, or promote inappropriate content such as drugs, alcohol, violence, or gang affiliation.

To maintain a respectful and distraction-free atmosphere, the school requires students to wear clothing that adequately covers the body and undergarments. Specific guidelines prohibit items like spaghetti straps, tube tops, backless shirts, short skirts, pajama pants, slippers, and clothing with offensive or inappropriate messaging. Accessories such as hats, chains, spikes, and sunglasses are also not allowed during the school day. Students violating these standards will be asked to change or leave school, and final decisions on dress code matters rest with the school administration. Details can be found SBHS dress code can be found in the SBHS Student Handbook.

SBHS ATTENDANCE POLICY SBHS ATTENDANCE POLICY

The Meade School District emphasizes the importance of regular school attendance as essential preparation for future success. Student achievement is closely tied to being present in class, and missing school results in lost educational opportunities.

Students are allowed up to 10 excused absences per year. Any absences beyond that, or absences not reported by a parent/guardian within 24 hours, will be considered unexcused.

Communication between students, parents, teachers, and the school is key to addressing attendance issues. Notifications will be sent home after a student uses their 10 excused absences and again at 5, 10, and 17 unexcused absences. Once a student reaches 17 unexcused absences, the school will file for truancy with the State’s Attorney. Please read the Meade School Board Policy File JED for more information on our attendance policy.

  • C is 79% to 70%
  • D covers 69% to 60%
  • F is given for scores 59% and below
