This week was Staff Appreciation and I want to personally thank the entire Hawks View staff for their unwavering dedication to kids. We have individuals here who are passionate about the work they do and truly want to make a difference in the lives of our students. They are hard working, diligent, caring, open-minded and joyful. I could go on and on about our staff and I am grateful they had the opportunity to be celebrated this week by our PAC and families. Thank you for making them feel loved!
A Message from our Multilingual Specialist, Mrs. Lira
Last week, Hawks View Dual Language (DL) teachers attended the OABE conference. On Friday, we had the opportunity to visit two dual-language schools in the Portland metro area alongside hundreds of other DL educators. On Saturday, teachers and parents from the DL program participated in various workshops to stay informed about community engagement, the latest research, and instructional practices in dual language education. This week, teachers have already implemented many new instructional strategies and insights gained from the conference. I feel proud and fortunate to witness the incredible work being done every day in each DL classroom!
Bingo Night ~ Tomorrow Night!
Bring your friends and family, test your luck, and see if you can shout "Bingo!" first!
One FREE Bingo board for every participant! (optional additional Bingo boards are 50 cents each)
Hot Dogs, Snacks, Candy, and Water available for purchase.
**This is not a drop off event, all students need to be accompanied by an adult**
Dinner Night Out @ Super Deluxe, March 6th
Join us on Thursday, March 6th, 10am-10pm for our next Dinner Night Out! Super Deluxe will donate 20% of net sales for the day back to Hawks View PAC. Be sure to mention Hawks View Elementary while you are ordering. Look for flyers in Friday backpacks!
Hawks View Talent Show
All students and talents are welcome! Any talent that can be shared on a stage is welcome - singing, instrument playing, dancing, gymnastics, juggling skills, magic tricks, joke telling, etc.!!
Permission slips with more details came home last week in Friday backpacks, and will be sent home again tomorrow in backpacks. We also have a link to the form below. Permission slips are due no later than Wednesday March 5th. Late forms will not be accepted.
SSD Indepdendence Academy and Bella Bloom Floral
Independence Academy has partnered with Bella Bloom Floral this year. Every week, Bella Bloom Florals graciously gifts us flowers from the previous weekend events. If you know of anyone in our community who could use a smile or a little pick me up, please let us know! Our students and staff have been trained in basic floral design and we would be happy to hand deliver a beautiful bouquet!
Please email us at mvincent@sherwood.k12.or.us for any additional questions or to submit a request!
National School Breakfast Week, March 3rd-7th, 2025
National School Breakfast Week celebrates the importance of a nutritious school breakfast in fueling students for success. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:
Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
Score higher on standardized tests
Have better concentration and memory
Be more alert
Maintain a healthy weight
Nutrition Services is celebrating by hosting a raffle contest! Next week, each student participating in School Breakfast will be entered into a raffle drawing (limit one entry per day). On Friday, we will draw the winner of this year's prize; a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble.
Happy National School Breakfast Week!
Reminder ~ After School Changes
There may be times when your student will have an alternate destination or pick-up at the end of the school day. In such cases, please send a note to your childโs teacher or the main office in the morning on arrival, or call the main office at 503-825-5400 before 1:30 pm. If emailing a message, please email both the teacher and the office. Teachers arenโt always able to check email during the day and may not see the message. Calls or emails after 1:30 make it difficult to get messages to classrooms in a timely manner, and we canโt guarantee that they will arrive in time. Please do not call the attendance line as this is for reporting absences only.
Lost and Found
Please remind your child(ren) to check the lost and found. These are items that have been left behind in January and February. Labeling jackets with student names will help us get them returned to the rightful owners. If you would like to come in and check lost and found for any missing items, you may do so after 2:30 when students have left the building.
Kindergarten Open House ~ March 13th
Do you have, or do you know someone that has a student starting Kindergarten in the 25-26 school year? Registration for Kindergarten is now open and we have some exciting upcoming events. This includes Kindergarten Open House on March 13 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
Kindergarten Registration
Registration for our incoming Kindergarten class is available online using the link below. Incoming Kindergarten students must turn 5 prior to September 1. Registering early helps the school and district start planning for the fall.
Online Kindergarten Registration
During online registration, new families will create a Sherwood ParentVUE account. Parents of current and former Sherwood students will log in with their existing ParentVUE account. Please call the Hawks View front office at 503-825-5400 if you have any questions.
Paper Registration
Families are also welcome to register using paper registration. Paper registration packets can be picked up from the Hawks View front office.
Kindergarten Dual Language Immersion (DLI)
If you or anyone you know is interested in our Dual Immersion program for Kindergarten, information can be found through our school website at: Hawks View Dual Language Immersion
Additionally, you are welcome to join us on Wednesday, April 9th for a DLI Interest & Showcase Night starting at 5pm. The โinterestโ portion of the evening is from 5:00-5:30. This portion will be both informative and interactive for our families who are curious about the program. The โshowcaseโ will run from 5:30-6:30pm and will give families a glimpse into the DLI program from K-4th grades. This evening is for both parents and students!
VPA Auditions Coming Soon!
Save the Date! Bowl with a Cop!
April 21, 2025, 5 p.m. To 8 pm. Join us for Make-A-Difference Monday and Bowl with a Cop at Langers Entertainment. Funds support our Sherwood Police Foundation and in turn supports our Officers and Chaplains.
