We look forward to seeing many of our students and families at the Homecoming Parade this afternoon!
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership between home and school. We greatly appreciate your support and all you do for our students.

Platte County School District is starting a new tradition to recognize the employees who make a difference every day.
Orange Crush celebrates Pirates who are “CRUSHING IT” in the ways they support our students, staff, schools and community. From creating meaningful experiences and welcoming environments to showing exceptional care and making a positive impact, Orange Crush gives us a chance to shine a light on the people behind the everyday moments that matter.
All employee groups are eligible to be nominated throughout the school year. Parents as Teachers
The Platte County R-3 School District Parents as Teachers program is a free and voluntary program designed to help District families with children prenatal to school age through monthly home visits. The parent educators provide caregivers the knowledge and skills to empower them as their child's first and most influential teacher. Through this program you can learn more about parenting and child development, learn ways to cope with challenges of family life, identify any potential delays in your child's development, and join fun group connections to meet other families in the Parents as Teachers program.

Birthday Treats
Celebrations and Birthdays We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday and other special days. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. Each classroom teacher will recognize the student in a special way to celebrate his or her birthday. If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class.

iReady Data Beginning of the Year Reminder-
Our students district-wide K-5 take a diagnostic assessment three times a year.
This assessment is called iReady. In previous years, PCR-3 took Fastbridge. While the name of the assessment has changed, the assessment is still a diagnostic assessment.
What does that mean?
It means this assessment assesses our students on grade level content at the beginning of the year ,in the middle of the year and at the end of the year.
The purpose of giving this assessment is to determine how our students are progressing in their academic growth throughout the school year.
Currently, Compass' iReady data is below:
- Reading: 31% of our students are on their grade level target/mark of where they should, be by the end of the school year.
- Math: 19% of our students are on their grade level target/mark of where they should be, by the end of the year.
While this percentages appear to be lower, this actually makes sense.
Example: We wouldn't expect an incoming 2nd grader to already know 100% of the 2nd grade content/curriculum at the beginning of the year. This assessment takes that into account, which is why the beginning of the year percentages look low.
We should expect growth when our students take this assessment again in December prior to Winter Break.
Negative Balances
It is our goal to help support all of our Platte County families who may need assistance paying negative lunch balances. Now you can help by contributing to our negative meal balance fund. Thank you for considering a donation to help families pay down meal debt. Every contribution makes a real difference for families in our community. Feel free to pass this information along to any community organization that may be interested in assisting with this fund.

Portrait of a Graduate
Since 2005, Pirates ROCK (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) has helped shape a strong culture of character across Platte County School District. More than 20 years later and beginning with the 2026-27 school year, we're building on that tradition by aligning Pirates ROCK with our Portrait of a Graduate essential skills.
This evolution creates a more consistent, student-centered approach to character development by focusing on the six essential skills that prepare learners to thrive in school, careers, and life. Students will continue to be recognized for demonstrating outstanding character while developing the competencies that support our mission of ensuring every learner thrives in an ever-changing world with confidence and resilience, all through a consistent framework and shared language as they grow from kindergarten through graduation.
Throughout the year, we'll focus on these essential skills:
- August/September: Effective Communication
- October/November: Self-Awareness
- December/January: Personal Connections
- February: Personal Growth
- March: Problem-Solving
- April: Global Connections
