Solar Eclipse on Monday 4/8!
KINDERS LEARNING TO CODE!!
Pencil in the date to join us next Wednesday night at HHS to check it out!
Before Spring Break, the kids were introduced to our coding mice! We started very simple and were introduced to the concept of coding and got some hands on time with the mice to see if we thought what we were telling it to do with the buttons is what happened when we hit go. We are going to build on this and spend the next few weeks in both library and STEM working on becoming coding masters and will eventually be able to tell Colby the mouse how to get from the start of the maze to the end. Not only will the mice travel through mazes we make through programming and sequencing, the mice also light-up and make sounds. Ms. Fraze started the lesson in library this week with reading If You Give a Mouse a Cookie which introduced them to the if/then thought process. If one thing happens, then another thing happens, and so on and so forth. The kiddos all also got a copy of that book to keep for their at home libraries! Mom's and Dad's, we sure hope you can join us at the Makers Fair on Wednesday April 10th at the High School to see what we have learned to do! We can't wait to show you! There will be kiddos aged Kindergarten-12th grade showing off all their talents as well. There will be SO MANY COOL things to see, so please pencil in the date to join us at the Hobart High School Fieldhouse anywhere between 6 & 8pm on Wednesday 4/10 to check it all out.

Next week is The Week of The Young Child!
The Week of the Young Child® is a time to recognize that children's opportunities are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment—at home, at child care, at school, and in the community—that will promote their early learning.
WOYC is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) designed to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. WOYC serves as a time to reaffirm our commitment to the importance of child experience in all types of early environments and promote critical foundational learning. This resource and activity guide, designed for both educators and families, has been developed to support this commitment. Celebrate WOYC with children and families Saturday, April 6, through Friday, April 12. Educators and families can also register for daily sessions in the Indiana Learning Lab as part of this annual celebration. Contact IDOE’s Office of Kindergarten Readiness with additional questions.
Raffle tickets coming home on Monday 4/8!!!!
We will be sending home raffle tickets on Monday 4/8 for a raffle that benefits our Brickies from the Start program. We would love if everyone was able to participate and sell the 12 tickets sent home with them. However, if you are not able to participate- please just leave the envelope in your child's folder and stick a little note on it that says "Not Participating" so we know to take them out of their folders.
If you are participating, once your tickets are sold send the payment and stubs back in the envelope that is provided. If you want to join the 24 club, please let your child's teacher know that you would like to get 12 more tickets.
All stubs and money will be due back by 4/26/24. Thanks in advance for your participation!!
We’re excited to invite our kiddos to the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. This event is an opportunity for students to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. All purchases do benefit our school and our kids as the money raised goes back into getting more books into their hands. Our Spring Book Fair will be a wonderful event for our students. Our fair will run from Monday April 8th – Friday April 12th with your child shopping during their scheduled library time. You are more than welcome to come join them here at school to shop during their time. Just make sure to bring your ID!
We have books for every interest, priced at prices for every budget. If there is a particular title you are looking for, reach out to our librarian via email at mfraze@hobart.k12.in.us or send in a note with your child so we can try to get it for them.
You can sign up for contactless payment options via card called the Scholastic E-Wallet at Book Fair Homepage (scholastic.com) , send in a check made out to the ELC (with a budget of course!) or cash. Even if all you can afford is a baggie with a couple of dollars in loose change- send it in with them! We will hook them up with a book they will love!

Watch out for the Big Bad Wolf!!
Kindergarteners have been participating in STEM through Project Lead the Way. In their recent unit, they have been learning about using materials and structure to make a solid foundation. In their study of fairytales and the Story of the Three Little Pigs, they built their "little pig's" house! Each student chose different materials and a design that they thought could handle the Big Bad Wolf. On They brought out the Big Bad Wolf blower and tried to see if it would blow their house down!
Did you know that you as parents can nominate a staff member to be recognized as someone who is Being Excellent On Purpose? Dr. Buffington LOVES to know about and celebrate the positive!
It's our last K & Coffee for the year!

OH NO!!! YOUR LITTLE BRICKIE ISN'T FEELING WELL?
If your child isn't feeling well, please keep him or her at home. You must report the absence IN SKYWARD before 10:00AM. There is no need to call the school to let us know. If there are any questions about the absence, we will reach out to you.
