Spotlight on Learning- Room 3 Mrs. Giordano Spotlight on Learning- Room 3 Mrs. Giordano

Currently, in Room 3, students are working hard on writing personal narratives, providing readers with a detailed snapshot of an important moment in their lives. Students are also working their way through "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief," answering questions about the text and practicing evidence-based citation. In math, students have just completed a test on whole number and decimal operations and did very well! They continue to work on October's monthly social-emotional learning theme of optimistic thinking by having positive attitudes throughout the school day.

Dear Parents, I wanted to share some exciting things we've been working on in class! In math, we've been learning about how to calculate the slope of a line, which means figuring out how steep it is using something called "rise over run." It’s like climbing a hill—you see how high you go (that’s the rise) and how far you go side to side (that’s the run). We’ve also explored how shapes that look similar can be connected through their sizes, like how two triangles can be different sizes but still look alike! In our English Language Arts (ELA) lessons, we are reading a book called "Summer of the Mariposas." It’s a great story that talks about family, culture, and our identities. While reading, we’ve had some really fun discussions where everyone gets to share their own thoughts and stories. We’ve also talked about the choices the characters make, which are sometimes hard, and that helps us understand what they’re feeling. Moreover, we are learning to connect the things that happen in the book to real-life situations, which helps us think critically and be more empathetic to others. This school year has been wonderful, and I’m so glad to be learning alongside all of your children! Thank you for being such awesome parents!

Social Emotional Learning

We will be focusing on a different social emotional skill each month.

In November, we will be focusing on Self Management- managing stress and working towards goals.

Cell Phone Policy

We have a no cell phone policy at school. Please remind your child to leave their cell phone at home. If they do bring their phone to school, then they are to turn their phone off, and hand it into their classroom staff every morning. If a student is found to be using their phone during the school day or refuses to hand it in, then parent/guardian will be immediately contacted, the phone will be confiscated for the parent to pick up. Thank you for your support and help with this important policy.
