Cunningham DEIB Committee
Vision Statement
At Cunningham Elementary School, we envision a nurturing and inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated, equity is pursued, inclusion is the norm, and every individual feels a profound sense of belonging. We are dedicated to fostering a community that respects and values the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities of each member, ensuring that all voices are heard and honored.
Core Beliefs:
Diversity Enrichment: We believe that diversity enriches our learning environment, promoting creativity, empathy, and mutual respect among students, staff, and families.
Equitable Opportunities: We are committed to providing equitable access to resources, support, and opportunities, enabling every student to reach their full potential regardless of their background or circumstances.
Inclusive Practices: We strive to implement inclusive practices that recognize and accommodate the varied needs and strengths of our community members, fostering a sense of belonging for all.
Cultural Competence: We prioritize the development of cultural competence, encouraging continuous learning and understanding of diverse cultures, identities, and experiences.
Collaborative Engagement: We value collaboration with families and the broader community, recognizing that diverse perspectives strengthen our collective efforts toward inclusivity and equity.
Continuous Reflection and Growth: We are dedicated to ongoing reflection and growth, regularly assessing our policies, practices, and curricula to identify and address biases, ensuring they align with our DEIB commitments.
By embracing these core beliefs, the Cunningham Elementary School DEIB Committee aims to cultivate an environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute to our vibrant school community.
The UNITY Project
The UNITY Project is a collaboration across Milton's PTOs, bringing together and updating the former Reading About Diversity and Meet the Artist programs. It blends both curricula, adds new books and artists, and will run throughout the school year.
Lessons are parent-led and designed to be easy to follow—no teaching experience necessary!
You can volunteer solo or team up with one or two other parents.
All materials will be provided at school.
To preview what the lessons look like, check out the UNITY Project website
Each grade has:
One book per theme
Two Meet the Artist lessons
