Warren School Weekly Update

May 29, 2026
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, I want to thank everyone for your continued dedication and energy. There is a great deal happening across the building, and it has been wonderful to see our students engaged, learning, and enjoying these special end-of-year experiences.
This week we welcomed many of our newest Warren School students during Incoming Kindergarten Screening. It was exciting to meet our future kindergarteners and their families and begin helping them feel connected to our school community. Thank you to everyone who assisted with the screening process and helped create a positive first impression for our newest students.
Thank you as well to the PTO and everyone who joined us at Dairy Queen last night. Events like these are a wonderful reminder of the strong partnership between our school and families. It is always enjoyable to see staff, students, and families connecting together outside of the school day.
Looking ahead, our Grade 2 students will participate in Step Up Day on Monday, an exciting opportunity to begin preparing for their transition to the Mindess School. They will be visiting the school and meeting school staff. Next Friday, students will participate in Drop Everything and Move Day. Students and staff are invited to wear their favorite sport shirt. This will be a great day for students to stay active and have fun throughout the school day.
Please also take a moment to review the upcoming Field Day volunteer opportunities. We appreciate the support of our parent volunteers in making these events successful for our students.
Have a great weekend,
Pete

I want to share a helpful resource: our local partners at the MetroWest Food Collaborative have created an easy-to-use website where food pantries, community meal sites, farmers markets and more are listed for our region. You’ll find flyers and calendars in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and you can search by town to see what’s available. MWFC

Growing Strong, Thoughtful Readers This Spring 🌱
What’s Happening in Class
This month, students are learning that good readers don’t just read the words—they think while they read.
Across all grade levels, children are practicing how to stop and ask themselves:
Does this make sense?
What might happen next?
Why did that happen?
“Stop and think strategy”
Readers are learning to pause while reading and check their understanding. These small thinking moments help students better understand and enjoy what they read.
They might:
Reread when something doesn’t make sense
Make a prediction about what will happen next
Talk about what a character is thinking or feeling
Try This Tonight: While your child is reading, pause and ask: What are you thinking right now?” Encourage them to share their ideas—even if they’re not sure yet!
Warm regards,
Kathy Ferrecchia

Thank you for making Literacy Night a huge success!
Warren School's Social Emotional Learning Update:
Hello Families,
This month we are learning about CITIZENSHIP.
We have defined citizenship as: being a good member of your community and showing that you care about the community and the people in it.
Here are some ways you can teach your child about citizenship at home:
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Do your part to help reduce pollution and water usage.
- Volunteer or donate to a local charity or organization.
- Participate in town cleanup!
- Talk to your child about what you love about your community. Talk about ways you could help improve it even more!
Books about citizenship:
- If Everybody Did By Jo Ann Stover
- The Dog That Ate the World by Sandra Dieckmann
- Carl the Complainer by Michelle Knudson
- What Mess? by Tom Lichtenheld
- Who Will I Be? by Abby Huntsman and Joanne Lew-Vriethoff

Message from our Nutrition Director:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we wrap up the school year, we’re excited to share our June menu featuring the Massachusetts Harvest of the Month: Strawberries!
Strawberries are a beloved fruit, known not only for their sweet, delicious flavor but also for their impressive health benefits. Grown locally here in Massachusetts, they’re packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and fiber, making them a great choice for a nutritious diet.
For more information on the benefits of strawberries and some fun recipe ideas, please visit the Massachusetts Harvest of the Month page: Massachusetts Harvest of the Month - Strawberries.
Our June menu features a variety of delicious dishes highlighting this seasonal fruit, including Fresh Strawberry Romaine & Spinach Salad and Waffles with Strawberries.
We’re proud to provide fresh, locally sourced strawberries to our students, supporting local farmers and ensuring the highest nutritional quality in our meals. We encourage you to enjoy strawberries at home too, to share in their many health benefits.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for trusting us with your children’s nutrition and well-being throughout the school year. Wishing you and your family a wonderful summer filled with delicious and nutritious foods!

Are you leaving the Ashland Public Schools?
Hello,
For families with students who will not be returning to Ashland Public Schools in the fall, please remember to go to www.myschoolbucks.com and disable auto-pay if you have been automatically adding funds to your child’s meal account. Otherwise, even after we issue a refund, the account may be reloaded again.
Please also note that we can only process refunds for balances of $10.00 or more. If your student’s remaining balance is under $10.00, you have the following options:
- Transfer the funds to a sibling or another student who will be returning next year
- Donate the balance to a student in need (transfers are done anonymously)
Seniors may pick up a form from the High School cashier to indicate how they would like any remaining funds handled.
If your student is not returning, please be sure to turn off auto-pay as soon as possible so we can avoid any unnecessary reprocessing of refunds.
Thank you!
Regina
