Principal's Message/Mensaje de la Directora

Hello Desert Sonora Community!

We are very grateful for your partnership & support during our August & September 2025 PTO Meetings. Here at DSS, we welcome our students’ families to collaborate and be a part of our educational community. We truly enjoyed our Salsa/Grito Contest as well as the performances of our 5th Grade Students. Congratulations to all Hawks who have been recognized at our monthly PTO meetings. We will host our Fall Festival on Wednesday, October 29th. Please save this date!

This October, we will be working with the Capturing Kids Hearts Character Trait of Self-Direction. I invite you to read the CKH Newsletter, which provides more information regarding this trait.

With that being said, I’d like to request your support with the overall safety of our community. It has been reported that there have been instances in which our student pick-up areas have not been safe.

Remember, we are our students & children role models; safety & good character begins with us. Thank you for your continued support!

Our teachers continue to focus on grade level academic standards as well as teaching our students about "Self-Direction." Equally important, our student strive to focus on Capturing Kids Hearts components & the reasons why we are respectful, responsible, & safe.

I ask all our DSS families to please continue to drop off students no earlier than 7:30 am. Our staff begins to welcome students right at this time. Dropping off students earlier than 7:30 am poses a safety concern for students, due to our staff beginning their workday right at 7:30 am. Please support us in keeping our students safe at all times.

As always, my door is open to hear your ideas as well as for me to address any concerns or opinions that may improve our school! Thank you for your support!

With respect & gratitude,

Mrs. Arredondo

Principal/Directora

The Somerton School District No. 11 School Counseling Team is pleased to invite you all parents and guardians to our first event of this school year called: COFFEE WITH THE COUNSELORS: BULLYING.

You are all cordially invited!

Hawks Stay Hydrated

Dear DSS families,

During our hotter months (August/September/October), it is of vital importance that we all stay hydrated. Please feel free to send your child to school with a water bottle. We allow our students to drink water when they need to and also have water fountains that allow for students to refill their water bottles brought from home. We recommend that you label your child's water bottle with their name, grade, & teacher's name. Thank you for your support!
