Absence Line & Email Address: 781-383-6115; DHS-notes@cohassetk12.org. Please note that students are responsible for knowing their dismissal plan each day. Any same day changes must be made by calling the office as teachers are not able to monitor their email while teaching.

Approved Snack List and Gum Rules: In these first few days of school we've had a significant uptick in students chewing gum and bringing snacks that aren't on our elementary approved snack list. Please note that gum is prohibited from being brought to school unless a student has a plan (IEP, 504, Student Success Plan) that formally documents its use. In those cases, it's carefully supervised by faculty. Our approved snacks are always listed at the bottom of the weekly newsletter for your reference. Thank you for helping your child adhere to these rules; this allows our teachers to keep their focus on teaching and learning!

Open House on Tuesday, September 9: Deer Hill's Open House is EARLY this year, and we're excited to see parents and caregivers! Please read the flyer above in addition to these need to knows:

This is an event for parents and caregivers; no students please.
Open House will take place from 6:00-7:30.
Teachers are looking forward to greeting you in their classrooms and may have “to-dos” for you to complete such as a note to your student or conference sign-ups. Prior to Open House, teachers will individually share a timeframe when they will be introducing themselves and welcoming everyone to the classroom. These will be staggered to allow for families with multiple children.
No worries if you can’t make it! A slide presentation with details about classroom routines and curriculum will be emailed to all families on Monday in advance of Open House.
Please plan to visit our specialists’ classrooms, too -- they’d love to meet you and share their learning spaces! You’ll receive a checklist to help you navigate throughout the building.
Thank you for remembering that Open House is not an appropriate time for lengthy conversations or parent conferences. Parent conferences will take place soon and can always be scheduled if a question or concern arises.

Deer Hill Picture Day: Picture Day will take place on Thursday, Septemeber 18. Order your pictures online at mylifetouch.com.

Confidential Health Form: Thank you to ALL Deer Hill families for completing this year's Confidential Health Form. You may return it either by emailing Nurse Bulman (cbulman@cohassetk12.org) a pdf copy (no photos please) or by printing it out and returning a hard copy to school. We require this form for all students.

Welcome Back, Deer Hill Students!

Thank You, Garden Volunteers! Thank you to the family of Sloane Sullivan (including her grandpa!) who spent several days weeding and preparing our Holly Hill garden beds for the new school year. Additionally, thank you to the Tweeddale family, owners of Cohasset Natural eco-friendly landscaping, who visited Deer Hill to spruce up our entrance over the Labor Day weekend! The Tweeddales have volunteered to oversee the ornamental upkeep of our courtyard and entry, a role they inherited from Dee Riley who did a beautiful job the last several years.

Dunked! Yesterday I joined Ms. Decoteau, Mr. Youmans, and Mr. Edge at the Cohasset Community Market where we let students take aim at us in the dunk tank. It was a blast and such a fun way to see our families enjoying the afternoon. Thank you to my fellow dunkees as well as the Deer Hill staff who came to cheer us on!

Hugo on the Go: Hugo on the Go snuck in a few more adventures over Labor Day weekend. Thank you for all the great travels he enjoyed this summer!

Hugo Kickoff Chats: Hugo is working hard to be the best school comfort dog ever, and as he enters his "teen era", he is training very diligently This week I visited each classroom to review expectations for interacting with Hugo. He'll be returning to Deer Hill soon and will resume his schedule of visiting a couple of days a week. He's also hoping to join the ranks of the Reading Rovers more regularly. Hugo is lucky to have so many friends at Deer Hill!

CHS Student Presentations at the Sea Shanty Shindig: Many high school volunteer docents kept our museums open this summer and will be showcasing specific themes of their choice at the 2nd annual Society Street Fair, Sea Shanty Shindig, on Friday Sept. 5th at 5pm. Hopefully, our younger students will also attend, learn Cohasset's history, and eventually become docents!
