Title I Parent and Family Engagement Practice
Blue Ridge Unified School District
School Year 2024-2025
Introduction
The Blue Ridge Unified School District (BRUSD) is committed to fostering strong partnerships between the school and home to enhance student achievement. This Parent and Family Engagement Practice outlines the district’s commitment to involving parents and families in their children’s education. We believe that by working together, we can create a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Practice Statement
The Blue Ridge Unified School District recognizes the vital role that parents and families play in a child’s education. We are committed to providing opportunities for parents and families to be actively involved in their child’s learning and school life.
Annual Parent Meeting
Purpose: BRUSD will hold an annual meeting to inform parents about the
district's participation in Title I, Part A programs. During this meeting, we will explain
the requirements of Part A and parents' right to be involved in their child's education.
Convenience: We will make every effort to schedule the meeting at a time that is
convenient for parents. Parents will be notified in advance through multiple methods,
including letters, phone calls, and electronic communication.
Attendance Support: If necessary, we will provide transportation,
childcare, or home visits to ensure parents can attend the meeting. These services will be
funded by Title I, Part A funds when appropriate.
Ongoing Parent Involvement
Active Participation: Parents will be involved in an organized, ongoing, and timely way
in the planning, review, and improvement of Title I, Part A programs, including the
school’s parental involvement policy. Parents will also participate in the joint
development of the schoolwide program plan, if applicable.
Inclusive Decision-Making: If BRUSD already has processes for involving
parents in general education program design, we will utilize those processes to ensure
that parents of participating students are adequately represented and that the processes
align with the requirements of Title I, Part A.
Providing Timely Information to Parents
Parents of students in Title I programs will receive timely information about their child’s
education, including:
➔ Information about Title I programs and the school’s performance.
➔ The school’s performance profile and the progress of participating schools, as
required under Title I, Section 1116(a)(3).
➔ Individual student assessment results, along with an explanation of what those
results mean.
➔ A description of the curriculum being used, the types of assessments administered
to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to
meet.
➔ Opportunities for parents to meet regularly, share suggestions, and collaborate
with other parents to support their child’s education.
➔ Responses to suggestions or feedback provided by parents during these meetings.
Parental Feedback and Response
Addressing Concerns: If parents find the schoolwide program plan unsatisfactory, we
will ensure that their comments are submitted to the district (LEA) when the plan is sent
for approval.
Timely Responses: BRUSD is committed to responding promptly to all
parent suggestions and concerns made during meetings or through other communication
Channels.
Flexible Meeting Times
Multiple Opportunities: We recognize that parents have different schedules and may not
always be available during traditional hours. Therefore, we will offer meetings at various
times, such as in the mornings or evenings, to accommodate the needs of all families.
Support Services
Providing Assistance: To help parents fully participate in their child’s education,
Buckeye Elementary will provide necessary support services, such as transportation,
childcare, or home visits, as appropriate. These services will be funded by Title I, Part A
resources, when applicable.
Encouraging Parent Involvement
Parent Engagement: At BRUSD, we encourage parents to actively
participate in decisions related to their child’s education. We provide opportunities for
parents to share their ideas, concerns, and experiences with the school and to collaborate
with teachers and staff on strategies to support student success.
Scheduled Meetings and Topics for Discussion
To ensure that parents are well-informed about their child’s academic progress, BRUSD will host two key meetings each year focused on Literacy and Mathematics:
Fall Meeting:
In the fall, we will provide parents with detailed information about the literacy
curriculum used at BRUSD and the types of assessments we use to measure
student progress in reading and writing. We will also share the results of benchmark
assessments and explain where their child stands in terms of reading proficiency.
Spring Meeting:
In the spring, we will focus on mathematics. Parents will receive information about the
mathematics curriculum, the assessments used to measure progress, and the proficiency
levels students are expected to achieve. We will also share the results of the benchmark
assessments and provide updates on where their child stands in their mathematical
development.
These meetings will provide parents with clear, actionable insights into their child’s academic
progress, as well as offer opportunities for parents to ask questions, share concerns, and discuss
strategies to support their child’s success.
