๐ŸŒŸ Reaching for the Stars at BPE! ๐ŸŒŸ

We are making our way toward one month of school, and what a great start it has been!

Over the past few weeks, our staff has been busy teaching and reinforcing our routines, structures, and expectations so that our students know what it means to be a Brook Park Little Titan. Just as importantly, we have been focusing on building relationshipsโ€”not only between staff and students, but also helping our students learn how to build positive relationships with one another.

Academically, we have been busy learning more about our students as well! We have completed our Fall MAP (Measuring Academic Progress) assessments and are using that information to identify students who may benefit from an extra scoop of support through interventions and enrichment.

Many of our students have also completed the Acadience Reading assessment. These results help our classroom teachers and Title I tutors identify specific reading skills students need to strengthen so we can provide focused support and continue helping every child grow.

In just two weeks, we will hold our first Town Hall meetings! We are so excited to see each grade level, celebrate our students and staff, share some of the great things happening at BPE, and continue building our Little Titan community together.

Thank you for partnering with us as we begin this school year. We are off to a wonderful start, and there is so much more ahead!

Take care, Little Titan familiesโ€”and keep reaching for the stars! ๐ŸŒŸ

โ€” Mrs. Schneid

Message from our School Counselors

THE COUNSELORโ€™S COMMENTS

September 2026

We are very happy to be able to work with the students, staff, and community here at Brook Park Elementary School!

Our Student Support Services professionals in the building are: Eileen Mahoney (K, 1st, and 2nd grade School Counselor), John Mancuso (3rd and 4th grade School Counselor), Megan Patterson (Student Support Family Specialist), and Brenda Knipper (Ohio Guidestone Therapist).

Our School Mental Health Team will both help in any way that we can in order to support students and families. As School counselors, Mrs. Mahoney & Mr. Mancuso provide direct services to students such as; individual, small group, and large group counseling. We also provide indirect services, i.e., consultation, 504 plans, and being a resource person for the schools.

Mr. Mancuso will be presenting on Bullies, Conflict, and Drama in each studentโ€™s 3rd & 4th grade classroom. We go over the topics and ways to advocate for ourselves to help these situations. In each classroom, I hang up โ€œMr. Manโ€™s Choices (conflict resolution strategies), โ€œIโ€ statements (telling someone how you feel), and Mr. Man slips ( requesting to speak w/ Mr. Man). After Mr. Mancuso is done with this round of classroom lessons, each 3rd and 4th grade classroom will be fully trained to solve and mediate their own conflicts. Mr. Mancuso will also reiterate this lesson in subsequent classroom lessons throughout the school-year to ensure that students reflect on how to handle these types of situations.

Mrs. Mahoney will be presenting on emotional vocabulary and coping strategies to help students know and understand the words for their emotions as well as the body feelings that may accompany those emotions. Students will learn to name a feeling and identify a healthy strategy to process the feeling, including taking deep breaths, asking for help from a trusted adult or taking a break. Visuals and language will be shared with classroom teachers to remind and reinforce the strategies with students.

Againโ€ฆ.please contact us if you need help in any way. We provide support to the students, families, and community at Brook Park Elementary School (BPE).

Walk to School Day Walk to School Day

Dear Brook Park Elementary School Parents:

We know your childโ€™s safety is a top priority for you. We hope you will join us for the annual International Walk to School Day on Thursday October 1 st at 8:00 am. BPE, BPE PTSA, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Childrenโ€™s Hospital, Greater Cleveland Safe Kids/Safe Communities Coalition and the Brook Park Police are joining together to support this important event.

The purpose of this day is to encourage physical activity and assess the conditions children face while walking to school. Walking to school is a great way for kids to get exercise, and it means there are fewer cars on the road and less pollution. The long-term goal of the program is to increase walking and make neighborhoods safer for walking to school.

We need your involvement!

Please: Participate in the annual Walk to School Day on October 1 st at 8:00 am by walking your child(ren) to school. We will be meeting at the Brook Park gazebo on Engle Road (next to the library).

Here are some helpful tips for walking safely with your child:

๏‚ท Never allow children under age 10 to cross streets alone. Children need to be

old enough to develop the skills to cross streets safely.

๏‚ท Always model and teach proper pedestrian behavior.

๏‚ท Instruct children to look left, right and left again when crossing streets and to

continue looking as they cross.

๏‚ท Make sure children do not run into streets or dart from between parked cars

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Officer Matt at mkimmich@bereaschools.org. We look forward to seeing you on October 1 st at 8:00 am.

Sincerely,

Officer Matt

Attendance Matters Attendance Matters

Attendance Data

BPE Families and Students are making great gains! Last week 4th grade had the highest attendance precentage with a week's average of 96.74%! Today, Thursday Sept. 10- 1st grade had 99.46% and 4th grade had 99.24%! This is great!

Each classroom also got their Mr. Potato Head for their classroom! Each time their classroom has 100% (comingin late or leaving early will count), they get to add a piece to their Potato Head. Once they are all filled up (13 parts) the class is rewarded and a special surprise visit will take place too. Ask your child what their class named their Potatoe Head? If they fill him up 1x, they get to take him apart and try again....Which class will have the most wins?

School Fees will be added to student accounts on October 1, 2026. Payments may be made in person at BPE using Cash or Check , or through Infinite Campus. Instructions are provided below.

Families are asked and encouraged to complete the Income Eligibility Verification Form to access additional benefits, including increased state and federal funding for staff, equipment, and supplies; discounts on fees for academic assessments; and access to local scholarships, tuition assistance for dual credit and AP courses, and discounts on college application fees. By completing the application, you help the district continue to provide valuable resources and opportunities for every student.

Welcome back and I hope everyone had a great summer. We wanted to take some time to cover some of the expectations for our students in Physical Education class. As the seasons change we see many different types of footwear.

Here is a list of foot attire that will not be considered safe to participate in PE this year:

  • Moon boots
  • Crocs
  • Flip Flops
  • Sandals
  • Shoes with heels

We are hoping students will wear athletic shoes with shoe laces or velcro straps. We encourage you to take some time to know which color day your child has PE class this year so you can help them have the proper clothing for class. Items like dresses, skirts (please wear shorts under them), and jeans make it very difficult to participate in class.

We are excited about the school year and over the next month we plan to learn and incorporate all the routines, procedures, and warm-up activities. In the weeks to come we will be reviewing and introducing equipment such as hula hoops, scooters, and gator skin balls which will be used throughout the year. Our third and fourth graders will be taking their pre fitness test in the first week of September. Second grade will be introduced to the routine of the fitness testing

Thanks again for your support and letโ€™s have a great year.

Welcome back!!!!
