Homecoming 2024: A Week of Spirit, Victory, and Celebration
On Friday, October 11th, students and staff gathered for the first pep rally of the year, bringing an atmosphere full of enthusiasm and school spirit. Each grade had representatives compete in a variety of games, and we took a special moment to honor our senior athletes and band members, celebrating their remarkable contributions. It was a fun and unforgettable event for everyone.
That evening, the Roller football team faced off against the Camp Hill Lions at War Veteran's Memorial Field. With a crisp fall evening setting the perfect scene, the game attracted a lively crowd of students, parents, alumni, and community members. At halftime, Samerus Rivers and Alexa Erby were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. The Rollers finished strong with an impressive 37-14 victory over the Lions.
Homecoming festivities concluded on Saturday night with the annual Homecoming Dance. Students from grades 9-12 enjoyed a magical night in the high school gym, which was transformed with decorations inspired by the Disney movie Tangled. Thank you to all of the students and staff who made these homecoming activities possible.

Elementary Student Council
Introducing the Steelton-Highspire Elementary Student Council for grades 4 through 6! This year, the council is guided by advisors Ms. Schaffer, Ms. House, Ms. Pugh, and Mr. Richard.
Each classroom voted for two representatives to serve as their homeroomâs voice on the council. With a total of 34 students, the council offers a hands-on opportunity for students to engage in leadership and experience the democratic process.
Looking ahead, November 4th will be an important date, as representatives will have the chance to run for officer positions such as vice president, secretary, treasurer, and public relations. Students will then participate in an election to select the best candidates for these roles. Notably, 6th grader Violet Fulcher, who served as last yearâs vice president, did an outstanding job and has been nominated by the advisors to serve as this year's president.
Already this year, the student council has launched the "Snack Shack" as a fundraiser. The students manage this operation every morning from 8:00 to 8:30, with product offerings based on feedback from their peers. Through this initiative, they are gaining real-world experience in entrepreneurship, focusing on concepts like business management and supply and demand.
We are incredibly proud of the students' efforts so far and are excited to see all that they will achieve this year!

Ms. Schaffer and Mr. Richard award points for following cafeteria rules, staying seated, using a "restaurant voice," cleaning up, and showing respect to both peers and staff.
At the end of each week, the homeroom with the highest score wins the prized "GOAT Trophy," celebrating them as the best-behaved class in the cafeteria.

National School Lunch Week October 14-18
First launched in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, National School Lunch Week was created to raise awareness of the availability of the National School Lunch Program and to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a childâs life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
For todayâs students, the cafeteria serves as a place to connect with friends and fuel up for a day of learning and extracurricular activities, and school lunch provides a healthy, delicious, and affordable way to nourish kids and build relationships.
This yearâs theme is âSchool Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure,â highlighting the importance of a healthy school lunch to a studentâs success.
We encourage all students to take advantage of our FREE breakfast and lunch programs at school every day!
