A Peek into Our Learning!
2nd grade soaked up the sunshine this week! Outdoor recess + perfect fall weather = happy kids.
Kindergarten worked on putting numbers 0-10 in order. They made a human number line and then practiced with a partner.
Ms. Brown's class had a special treat courtesy of our next harvest! They gave the plants a quick "plant haircut" and tasted the turnip microgreens.
Ask these kiddos what they thought of their fresh garden snack!
PreK became master chefs as they made their own No-Bake Apple Pie Cups. They used graham crackers, apple pie filling, and whipped cream to build an apple pie.
Fifth grade kicked off their keyboard piano unit this week!
Class of 2027 Car Wash
Grand Total: $4,507
The Fifth Grade Class of 2027 wants to thank everyone in the community who supported this annual fundraiser. With more than $4500 in the bank, planning an epic fifth grade year can begin! Thank you!
Tech Free Day at New Leb
As part of our ongoing effort to balance instructional technology with device-free learning, we will continue to hold four “unplugged” days this school year. Next Tuesday, New Lebanon students will take a break from their devices for the day. After school, ask your child what they enjoyed about learning unplugged and how it felt to spend the day without screens!
Family Literacy Program
Gr 2 CogAT Testing
Greenwich will administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to all Grade 2 students in October, before ALP Enrichment placement. Because these abilities are closely related to an individual’s success in school in virtually all subjects, data gathered from the CogAT is included as one aspect of the multiple measures that help the staff make decisions regarding students’ instructional needs.
The assessment will be given between October 26 and November 6. Scores will be made available to parents on or before November 20. More information regarding the CoGAT Assessment is available at https://riversideinsights.com/cognitive_abilities_test.

IB Book of the Month
Learner Profile Trait: Balanced
A little boy who loves storytelling but struggles with writing learns that it’s okay to make mistakes in this charming and encouraging picture book from the author of Mommy’s Khimar.
Abdul loves to tell stories. But writing them down is hard. His letters refuse to stay straight and face the right way. And despite all his attempts, his papers often wind up with more eraser smudges than actual words. Abdul decides his stories just aren’t meant to be written down…until a special visitor comes to class and shows Abdul that even the best writers—and superheroes—make mistakes.
Balanced learners understand the importance of intellectual, physical, and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being for themselves and others. They are able to assess and understand their strengths and limitations in order to support their learning and personal development. We would like for our students to recognize their interdependence with other people and with the world in which they live.
