KARAKIA
E te Atua,
As we begin this new term,
we thank You for the opportunity to learn, grow, and journey together.
Guide us in all that we do,
help us to show kindness and respect to one another,
and give us the courage to face new challenges with confidence and faith.
Bless our students, staff, and whānau throughout the weeks ahead.
Āmene.
A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Tēnā koutou parents, students, staff, and whānau,
I hope all of our students had a wonderful holiday break and were able to enjoy some quality time with their whānau. I also hope our staff had the opportunity to recharge, spend time with family and friends, and return refreshed for another busy term. While schools are never completely quiet during the holidays, the change of pace provides a valuable opportunity to prepare for the term ahead.
This week has marked the beginning of a new semester of learning for our Years 7–10 students, with the start of a fresh set of modules. It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm our students have shown as they embrace new learning opportunities, explore different areas of interest, and settle quickly into their new classes. We look forward to seeing the learning, growth and creativity that will come from these experiences over the coming months.
Like many homes and workplaces across our community, Campion has seen its fair share of winter bugs. In fact, I am writing this week's newsletter from home as I recover from one myself! While regular attendance at school is incredibly important and has a significant impact on student achievement, so too is knowing when to take the time to recover. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home so they can rest, recover fully, and help prevent illnesses from spreading throughout the school.
This weekend is another busy one for our college community, with both our Youth Mass and Youth Group gathering and the annual Dance for Life Education event taking place. I will be attending Dance for Life Education on Saturday evening to support two of our wonderful staff members, Mrs Ostler and Ms Sherry, as they take to the dance floor with their respective partners for this fantastic community fundraiser.
We know just how much time, energy and courage goes into preparing for an event like this, and we wish them every success. A special acknowledgement also goes to Koka Jaeda, who has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, sharing her expertise and supporting the choreography for the event. We know her guidance and encouragement have been invaluable in helping prepare our dancers for the big night.
Whether you're attending Youth Group or supporting Dance for Life Education, I hope you enjoy being part of another wonderful weekend in our Campion community.
As we head into another busy weekend, I wish all of our students, staff and whānau a restful and enjoyable few days. Thank you for the ongoing support you provide to our college community.
Yours in Christ
Karyn Sadler
Principal

CELEBRATING MATARIKI AT CAMPION COLLEGE
Although Matariki fell during the school holidays this year, we have enjoyed celebrating this important occasion together during the first week of Term 3.
On Monday, we gathered as a school for a Matariki Liturgy, where we explored the significance of the Matariki star cluster and reflected on the meaning of each of the stars. Students considered how the values represented by the stars—such as remembering those who have passed, caring for our environment, showing gratitude, strengthening relationships, and looking forward with hope and aspiration—can guide the way we live each day.
Today, students continued these reflections through a range of Matariki-themed wellbeing activities, providing opportunities to connect with one another, celebrate our strengths, and think about our hopes and goals for the year ahead. We then came together as a school community to enjoy a shared sausage sizzle.
Thank you to all the students who have entered our Matariki Colouring Competition and Poetry Competition. There's still time to enter! If you haven't yet submitted your colouring competition entry or poem, please hand it in to the College Office or email it to office@campioncollege.school.nz by the end of Wednesday next week.
The winners of both competitions will be announced in next week's newsletter.
Matariki reminds us to pause, reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look with hope toward the future—values that continue to strengthen our Campion community.
EXHIBITION EVENING
Thank you to the parents, whānau and caregivers who joined us for our Exhibition Evening on Wednesday evening. We appreciate you taking the time to visit the college and engage with your child's learning. It was wonderful to see our Years 7–10 students proudly sharing their Learning Journey Websites, reflecting on their progress, and showcasing work they are most proud of. We also appreciated the opportunity for our Years 11–13 families to connect with teachers and discuss student progress in an informal setting.
Strong partnerships between home and school make a real difference to student success, and we value every opportunity to connect with our families. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this important event.
BADMINTON NATIONALS
Congratulations to our Campion students who represented Gisborne at the New Zealand Badminton Nationals in Palmerston North during the first week of the school holidays.
For a sport that has only recently been established at Campion College, having such strong representation at a national tournament is a fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud of our students for the commitment and dedication they have shown, and for representing both Gisborne and Campion with pride.

CONGRATULATIONS, ZEVA PEARD!
Congratulations to Zeva Peard, who achieved her Netball Centre Umpire Badge last weekend! Over the past few years, Zeva has gained valuable experience umpiring junior netball. This season, she has shown real courage by stepping up to officiate Secondary A Grade matches, consistently demonstrating confidence, professionalism, and a willingness to learn. Her positive attitude and openness to feedback have seen her continue to grow as an umpire.
Last Saturday, Zeva umpired her first Senior game and was assessed by umpire coaches for her Centre Badge. We are thrilled to share that she passed with flying colours! We are incredibly proud of Zeva's achievement and grateful for the time and commitment she gives to umpiring. The Gisborne Netball Centre team greatly appreciates her enthusiasm, positivity, and willingness to support the game.
Congratulations, Zeva – a fantastic achievement!
