At Desert Star, we are committed to providing a high-quality education for all our students. A crucial part of this is ensuring that our school day starts on time so that every student can receive the maximum benefit from their instruction.
We've noticed a significant number of students arriving late. When students are tardy, they miss important morning announcements, warm-up exercises, and the beginning of their lessons. This can disrupt the learning environment for the entire class and make it difficult for the tardy student to catch up.
Our school day officially begins at 7:50 a.m. Doors open, and staff is on duty starting at 7:20 a.m. Please help us by ensuring your child arrives at school with enough time to have breakfast, get to their classroom, and prepare for the day.
Your partnership in this is greatly appreciated. By working together, we can ensure a smooth and successful start to each and every school day.
The Health Office would like to say how excited we are for this coming year and that we are happy to see all the smiling faces. As the year is beginning, we would like to remind you that all students who require medication at school will need to have a doctor's order that needs to be updated every school year, even if the medication is over the counter (cough drops, Tylenol, Claritin, etc.). We would like to ask that parents of Kindergarten/1st grade students please send an extra set of clothes in your student's backpack (to be kept there) in case of accidents. Classroom food allergy letters were sent home the week of 8/11-815, please look those over to help us keep all kids in our school safe.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Centers
LET'S TALK
We encourage parents/guardians to contact our district's Call Center by calling the Let's Talk line to excuse student absences. Folks at the central office are ready to help. This allows the school's office staff to direct more of their attention to the needs of our students, staff and parents throughout the day.
If you are unable to speak to someone directly at the APS Call Center, please leave a detailed voicemail with your name, your child's first/last name, the name of the school, the date of the absence, and the absence reason.
In addition to assisting with attendance matters, Call Center personnel are also available to help you access your parent Powerschool account, provide information about upcoming school event dates/times, answer general questions about a variety of topics (or put you in touch with the appropriate department or staff member who can), and listen to any concerns or suggestions for improvement, as well as shout-outs or celebrations. For these additional topics, you may call, text, use the Let's Talk app, or submit a message via that area within the district's website (found on the Contact page).
