Message from Mr. Hunter
Dear Discovery Families,
As we prepare to embark on week six of our 25-26 School year journey together, I want encourage us to not get weary in well doing. They say "Rome wasn't built in a day" and neither will changing the relationship between Home and School. We have to stay committed to what we know will benefit our children. The most important adults in the lives of children, their parents and teachers, working together is what benefits children the most. HOME and SCHOOL UNITED, NOT DIVIDED.
IMPORTANT
* Unless students are in morning care, they should not be dropped off before 7:45am.
* For the safety of our children, students dropped off before 7:45 will be sent to morning care, and charged the morning care fee
* Morning drop off: Please remember to use the circle when dropping off children in the morning. Do not leave your vehicle or sit for a prolonged period of time. **It is not safe for parents to stop outside of the circle and allow children to leave the vehicle.
* Students are destroying and defacing bathroom stalls and walls. Please support us in discussing proper bathroom etiquette with your children. Bathrooms will be checked more often, and any student caught defacing property will receive a consequence.

Policy Reminders from the Student Handbook
Discipline and Conduct
An effective instructional program requires an orderly environment in which students and employees know and abide by the reasonable standard of socially acceptable behavior. It is expected that they respect the rights, person, and property of all community members. All students in the school are entitled to share in its education and related programs to the extent of their abilities without regard to race, color, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, or disability. Every student is expected to behave at the school and in school-related activities in accordance with the public laws, the JYK DCS Code of Conduct, and lawful directions of assigned staff, and deal fairly and courteously with fellow students, staff, and the public. In the event of an incident during which a student is at risk of harming themselves or others, it may be necessary for a JYK DCS employee to restrain a student(s) (see Positive Behavior Support and Physical Assist Policy).
