RMS Monday Message September 18th, 2023

All Settled In!

The first two weeks of school are complete and the new school year is already in full swing!

As a reminder, students that are eating breakfast are allowed in the school at 7:50am. Students who do not eat breakfast at school may enter the building at 8:00am. The 6th grade late bell rings at 8:10am and the 7th/8th grade late bell rings at 8:14am. Students who arrive after this time should report to the Attendance Office for a late pass.

Also, please remind your student to plug-in their Chromebook at night before school (especially on Sundays!) as they are used during the day in their classes to complete work on Google Classroom, research topics, etc.

We hope that the beginning to your school year has been a good one thus far!

Action Required: ParentPortal Returning Student Registration Form

The ParentPortal Returning Student Registration Form is now open. We thank you for your patience as we ran into some technical difficulties with rolling this out.

Each school year it is important for parents to update their information on Parent Portal. Please take the time and complete the "Returning Student Registration Form" and make sure phone numbers, email addresses, and addresses associated with your account are correct. Communication from RMS and the BCSD is linked to this demographic information. Directions are below for creating an account as well as completing the RSR Form. If you run into any issues, submit a "help ticket" to our Technology Dept. and they will assist you. (parentsupport@beaconk12.org).

National Hispanic Heritage Month!

On Friday, September 15, we kicked off our celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Each year, Americans observe Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson, and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

iReady Benchmark

Students will be taking the i-Ready Assessments in ELA and Math this week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students will be taking the assessment first thing in the morning. We will then operate on a delayed schedule following the assessment. Please make sure that your child comes to school with a charged Chromebook on all of the benchmark days. Also, please explain to your student that these assessments are important in helping us determine their skill levels in both Math and ELA subject areas in order to provide the best instruction possible to help to make sure that they are successful in school. It is important that the students take their time and try their best on these diagnostics. Thank you for your support!
