Every Day Counts

Each day counts when it comes to learning, achievement, building relationships, and staying connected at school. While we don't want students to come to school when they are sick, regular attendance on healthy days is important.

Under Maryland State Department of Education's definition, a student is considered chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of the school days in which they are enrolled, whether absences are excused or unexcused. This means students can become chronically absent at any point during the school year if absences begin to add up. Let's work together to make every day count. When students are healthy and ready to learn, being present at school helps them to achieve.

Wellness Matters at CHS

At Calvert High, we recognize that wellness is an important part of student success. Taking time to rest, recharge, and care for their well-being can help reduce stress, improve focus, and support academic performance. We encourage students to use scheduled days when school is closed and the extra time provided after 2-Hour Early Dismissal days to rest, recharge and/or engage in activities that support well-being.

Using the built-in breaks during the school year for wellness can help students return refreshed and ready to learn while also supporting strong attendance on instructional days. Balancing wellness with regular attendance can help students can stay engaged at school, make the most of their learning opportunities, and thrive both inside and out of the classroom.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

ATTENDANCE EMAIL Send notes for student absences, students arriving late or needing to leave early to the CHS Attendance email. Please direct correspondence to CHSAttendance@calvertnet.k12.md.us. All secretaries in the main office have access to this email address.

Fall Panorama Screener

The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future requires each Maryland school district to provide a plan to ensure all students have access to physical and behavioral health services. Pillar 4 of the Blueprint: More Resources for Students to Be Successful, outlines how districts should plan for and provide these resources. One requirement is the implementation of a standardized screening tool to identify students with behavioral health services needs using an evidence-based measurement approach.

During the next several weeks, students in grades 3-12 will be completing the Panorama Screener which should take approximately 20 minutes. This screener is not a diagnostic tool, meaning it is not designed to diagnose mental health disorders. Rather it is utilized to address individual, classroom-wide and school-wide social-emotional and behavioral skill development to assist students in being successful learners.

The screener will ask students to reflect on topics including Emotion Regulation, Feelings, Growth Mindset, Responsible Decision Making, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Supportive Relationships, and Student-to-Student Interactions.

These links allow parents and guardians to view the items on the screener.

We thank you and your family for being our valued partners in education. If you have any questions about the Panorama Screener, please contact the school’s administration team or your child’s counselor.

Monitoring Student Grades

Parents have access to both HAC and Schoology – these are two great resources that can help you to keep track of your student’s grades and assignments. HAC gives you a real picture of their current grades and missing assignments, and Schoology works similarly. Schoology can even tell you if your student has submitted an assignment and the teacher hasn’t yet graded it. Check out the attached guide to learn more about how to utilize Schoology. If you need assistance with your HAC or Schoology account, please contact Mrs. Kruder at kruders@calvertnet.k12.md.us.

Be sure you are checking the Guidance website CHS Guidance and Twitter CHS Guidance Twitter to get up-to-date info on College visits, scholarships, forms, and other important events.
