SPS District Newsletter
September 30, 2025
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, providing education, and fostering open conversations about mental health and suicide prevention. At Southfield Public Schools, we are committed to supporting the well-being of our students, staff, and community. This month, we encourage everyone to learn the signs of someone in crisis, engage in compassionate dialogue, and know that help is available. By working together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and offer hope to those who may be struggling. Remember, a simple conversation can make a profound difference—let’s stand together for a safer, more supportive community.

Adler Elementary & Burlington Stores Ribbon Cutting!
We are thrilled to share that Burlington Stores generously donated $5,000 to Adler Elementary through AdoptAClassroom.org. The ribbon-cutting event at the new Burlington store in Southfield was amazing, and we are so grateful for their support! These funds are helping our teachers purchase new classroom supplies to enhance learning for our students.
Stevenson Elementary School Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Curriculum Night
On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Stevenson Elementary School celebrated $20 million in renovations with a joyful ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking a milestone in our commitment to providing an exceptional learning environment. Attendees toured the newly upgraded facilities, which feature state-of-the-art classrooms, collaborative spaces, innovative STEM labs, a fine arts wing, an inclusive playground, and enhanced safety features—all funded by the 2022 Capital Facilities Bond.
The evening concluded with Curriculum Night, giving families the chance to meet teachers and explore the exciting educational opportunities ahead. From the thoughtful program to the community engaging in everything Stevenson has to offer, the day was a true celebration of unity and new beginnings.
Thank you to everyone who made this day so special—Be Bold. Be Brilliant. Be Stevenson.

Parking Lot Safety
Now that the school year is underway, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families continue to be one of our top priorities. One important area of focus is maintaining safety in our parking lots during drop-off and pick-up times.
We kindly ask for your cooperation in following these important parking lot safety guidelines:
- Drive Slowly and Cautiously: Please observe the posted speed limit and always be prepared to stop for pedestrians, especially during busy arrival and dismissal times.
- Use Designated Drop-off and Pick-up Zones: To keep traffic moving smoothly and safely, please only use the designated areas for dropping off or picking up your children. Avoid stopping in the middle of the parking lot or along non-designated curbs.
- Follow the Directions of Staff and Crossing Guards: Our staff members and crossing guards are there to ensure everyone’s safety. Please respect their instructions and be patient, even if there is a wait.
- Yield to Pedestrians: Remember, pedestrians have the right of way. Please be vigilant, especially around crosswalks and sidewalks where students and families may be walking.
- Avoid Distracted Driving: Please refrain from using your cell phone or other distractions while driving in the parking lot. A moment of inattention can lead to serious accidents.
- Park in Designated Spaces Only: For everyone's safety, please park only in designated spots and avoid double parking or blocking driveways.
By working together and following these simple guidelines, we can ensure that everyone arrives and leaves school safely each day. We appreciate your commitment to keeping our school community safe.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding parking lot procedures, please don’t hesitate to contact your school’s office.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
