Dear Emerson Families,
As I say my goodbyes to your terrific kids and the outstanding faculty and staff here at Emerson today, I don't want to depart without also extending my sincere gratitude to you, the Emerson parents, for your care, support and trust of the school during these very formative middle school years. In a relatively short period of time, I have been fortunate to introduce myself to many of you, mostly by phone and often with a "---- is fine, I just need to share more about a situation with you." Each time, along with understandable concern, you have greeted me with an open ear and genuine desire to learn more, while we have processed issues involving your kids together. While working alongside the talented administrative team and faculty here for a few months, it has felt like a supportive partnership with you and the staff in so many ways. My fondest memories here will be of the students, who as you know well, go by "bro" these days.
Thanks for letting me share in their upbringing, if even for a short time.
All my best,
Randy Needlman

May Notes from the Gym
As April comes to a close, our students have been actively participating in spring fitness assessments. These assessments focus on four key components of physical fitness: muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance. To learn more about each assessment and its purpose, we invite you to visit our PE webpage.
In the latter part of April, we also launched our Track and Field unit, which will continue through mid-May. Students will engage in a variety of events including the long jump, high jump, shot put, hurdles, and several running events. This unit is designed to enhance foundational movement skills in running, jumping, and throwing, while also fostering a spirit of friendly competition and introducing students to the broader world of track and field.
Looking ahead, students will transition into our Softball and Kickball units. During these units, students will be given the option to choose between a competitive or recreational level of play. This approach is intended to maximize participation, maintain high engagement, and promote a safe and inclusive environment for all learners.
We will also continue to incorporate mile training days into our weekly schedule. These sessions focus on building cardiovascular endurance and teaching students effective pacing strategies.
As we approach the end of the school year, this will be our final “PE Notes from the Gym” newsletter. The PE Department would like to express our sincere gratitude to all Emerson students and families for your continued support and enthusiasm throughout the year. We wish you a restful, relaxing, and safe summer break when it arrives.
Fitness is a lifelong journey with no finish line. We encourage all students to stay active, keep moving, and enjoy the many opportunities summer brings for physical activity and well-being.
