Happy New Year! There are important dates that are necessary to note as we head into the Spring. Believe it or not, course selection is right around the corner! This month, we will begin our individual course selection meetings with students. These meetings will be done through designated classes. During this time, we will be reviewing grades, discussing post-graduation plans, and finalizing course requests for next year. To view the most up to date information about courses, please visit our TWHS Course Selection Website. The course selection sheets will be updated soon for the 2026-2027 School Year.

In preparation for the individual meetings, we have created a video for you to review. Please note that this video is over an hour long, so watch it at your leisure. In it, you will learn about Naviance, a tool that students use to plan courses and other important aspects of post-secondary options. Here is the video:

TWHS Course Selection for Parents.

By the time we begin course selection in late January, students should have their 4 year plans completed in Naviance, including elective selections and alternate classes. Please refer to the video in the previous paragraph. Selections can be changed from year to year. This is not set in stone!

If you have a current Sophomore or Junior, we want to give you time to review important dual credit information for anyone wishing to take a dual credit class for the 2026-2027 school year. The dual credit submission form will open up on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, and will close on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026. The next step is reviewing the steps to becoming a dual credit student, as outlined on the TWHS Dual Credit Website.

Step 1: Are you a new or returning dual credit student? If you are new, proceed to step 2. If you are not new, you will proceed to step 3.

Step 2: If you are a new dual credit student, complete the Apply Texas application & set up your LoneStar College account and forward your emails. If you are not new to dual credit, proceed to step 3.

Step 3: Do you have qualifying test scores either through SAT, ACT, or the TSIA2 tests? If you do, you do NOT need to re-qualify. If you don't and have not signed up for the February ACT, you will need to be sure to sign up for the TSIA2 test. More information on that to come. Testing usually occurs in March. However, before you are able to test in March, you MUST create an accuplacer account and complete the pre-assessment activity. Instructions for completing the pre-assessment can be found here.

You may be asked to show your certificate of completion, so be sure to download your certificate and save it to your google drive. For students taking the February ACT test or March SAT test, scores are usually loaded into your College Board or ACT account within 3 weeks. Students taking the TISA2 test, you will receive your scores as soon as you complete your test.

Step 4: Submitting the dual credit google form (including uploading your dual credit paperwork and qualifying test scores). This step cannot be completed UNTIL the student obtains the qualifying test scores. The form opens January 6, 2026, and closes April 2, 2026.

The last and final step will not occur until July/August. I will send another email with payment instructions once LoneStar College has enrolled students in their dual credit courses for the Fall. This typically happens at the end of July. The deadline to have steps 1-4 completed is April 2, 2026.

Here are some important dates for next semester:

  • January 6th: Dual Credit registration begins
  • January 12th-23rd: Teacher recommendations take place for the 2026-2027 school year; you will be able to view these recommendations at a later date
  • January 15th: Highlander Academic Expo at the senior campus
  • January 20th: Virtual presentation at 10am and 5pm on 4 year Plans and Pathways
  • January 21st: Parent Help Night- at the 9th grade campus (only for parents who still have questions after the expo- completely optional to attend)
  • January 26th: Naviance closes for course selection
  • January 27th- End of March: Counselors meet individually with students for course selections
  • April 2nd: Dual credit paperwork deadline- all test scores should be received, and completed paperwork turned in by this date
  • April 13th: Paper verifications sent home with completed course requests
  • April 17th: Verifications due and course change requests due

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Mrs. Tabor will present on 4 Year Plans and Pathways. This is a virtual presentation that will occur at 10am and 5pm. Please see the flyer for log in information.

If you and your student have additional questions after the Academic Expo, there is an Optional Parent and Student Help Night on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. This will be held at the 9th Grade Campus on Branch Crossing Drive.

Students who need to change the level of a year-long core course for the second semester should do so by January 16, 2026. Elective changes should have already occurred. Example: Honors Chemistry to Level Chemistry. Changes to half-year courses must be made by January 26, 2026. Example: Honors Economics to Level Economics. Their counselor will provide a form for the student to complete, which includes signatures from the teacher and parent. The form must be completed before the course can be changed. Teacher changes are not allowed.

Please note that if a student failed the first semester, depending on the average, the student may recover the entire credit in the second semester by averaging the two semesters at 70 or above. However, if a student fails the second semester, they cannot average the first semester to pass both semesters.

We know there are many options for tutors in our community. However, we strongly encourage your student to build a relationship with their teacher and seek their guidance when they need assistance or clarification. Our teachers are readily available before or after school for tutoring. In many cases, students also utilize peer tutoring through many of our service organizations. In addition, evening tutorials are available at the Senior Campus. Our staff is always here to help answer questions and address concerns. We also provide a list of tutors, some current or former teachers, on our website. You can also find it here:

CLINIC NOTES CLINIC NOTES

We would like to remind you of several important updates regarding your student’s health records and requirements:

  1. Vaccine Updates:
If your student has received any vaccines this school year, please send a copy or screenshot to the school clinic so it can be added to their electronic record.

○ Colleges and universities require a second dose of the Meningitis (MCV4) vaccine, administered on or after the 16th birthday.

○ Email vaccine records to:

■ Senior Campus: aransley@conroeisd.net

■ Ninth Grade Campus: efalcon@conroeisd.net

  1. Graduating Seniors or Moving Families:

○ If you have a graduating senior or plan to move over the summer, please request a copy of your student’s vaccine record before the end of the school year.

○ Records can be picked up by your student or emailed to you.

○ Note: Clinic staff will not be available after May 26th for the summer.

○ The district does not submit records to colleges or universities on your behalf.

○ Records are kept on file for five years after a student’s last enrollment in Conroe ISD.

  1. Upcoming Vaccines or Expiring Affidavits:

○ If you’ve received a letter or email regarding an upcoming vaccine due or an expiring Conscientious Objector affidavit, please ensure these are submitted to the clinic within 10 days of the due date to maintain enrollment.

○ Conscientious Objector affidavits can now be downloaded and printed at home. Please see the clinic website for that link. https://sites.google.com/conroeisd.net/twhsclinicinformation/home

  1. Vision and Hearing Screenings:

○ We are completing the required vision and hearing screenings for all students new to the district this year.

○ If your child receives a vision referral, please ensure the letter is signed by an eye doctor and returned to the clinic to complete the referral process.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep our students healthy and in school!

Family Support Through The Welcome Center

We would like to inform you that the Welcome Center, led by Iytzia Cárdenas, has now been relocated to the Jett Center. However, she continues to visit our campus some days a week, mainly when she has scheduled appointments with families.

🧭 Her Mission: Guiding Families Through a New educational System

If you come across a family who may benefit from a one-on-one meeting with Iytzia to better understand and navigate the school system, please don’t hesitate to refer to them.

Iytzia is committed to:

  • Providing clear guidance and support

  • Helping families gradually access the information they need

  • Ensuring they do not feel overwhelmed or lost

🌍 More Than Just a Language Barrier

We often assume the challenge is only about learning a new language—but in reality, it’s much deeper.

Families arriving from other countries experience:

  • Culture shock.

  • Grief and loss from leaving their home country, family , friends , etc.

  • A complete shift in norms and expectations.

All of this can create confusion and uncertainty as they try to adjust. That’s where cultural and emotional support becomes essential.

👩‍🏫 Iytzia’s Ongoing Impact

With over 12 years of experience on this campus, Iytzia has played a key role in building strong connections with our families. Due to the growing importance of her work, her role has now been centralized, and she now serves all district schools through the Jett Center.

She identifies newly arrived families and reaches out directly—or sometimes is referred by families like you.

📌 How You Can Help

If you notice a student or family who seems to be struggling with adjustment, please:

  • Reach out to Iytzia ( 281-220-9527) icardenas@conroeisd.net

  • Share any relevant information.

  • Encourage families to connect with her.

Even a small gesture can make a huge difference in helping families feel seen, understood, and supported.

Thank you for being a vital part of this support network. Together, we can continue creating a welcoming and inclusive community environment for everyone.
