October 2026: From Your Principal
Hello, October!
We made it to October, finished our first nine weeks of school, and are excited for fall break! When we return, we have a month full of fun ahead.
Parent conferences are October 12. If you have not scheduled a time with your child’s teacher, please do so soon. Later in the month, we’ll have an optional Pay to Play dress-up week to help collect candy for Haunted Halls of Learning on October 29. We’ll also celebrate Red Ribbon Week with more dress-up days and end the month with our Character Parade on October 30. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, with the time change that same weekend!
We hope cooler weather brings more chances for students to play outside. Parents are always welcome to volunteer during lunch or recess. Extra eyes in the cafeteria and on the playground help us keep everyone safe while they have fun.
Before break, we’ll celebrate students who earned positive office referrals with a glow party! We look forward to recognizing even more Astronauts. You can help by reminding your child each day to follow our SOAR expectations, be a kind friend, help others, and pay attention in class. Please also help your child arrive on time, stay all day, and come to school every day. Along with a great education, there are rewards and surprises to look forward to!
We love the “ber” months at Crippen. Have a wonderful October!

Morning Car Rider Drop-Off
Parents, our front doors open at 7:45 a.m. Although the tardy bell rings at 8:30, students need time to go through the breakfast line and be in class, ready to learn, by then. Our teachers must return to their classrooms to begin teaching at 8:30, so they need to stop opening car doors at that time.
When many cars arrive around 8:20, the line backs up and some students may not have enough time for breakfast before class. If your schedule allows, arriving between 8:00 and 8:15 can help. We usually have little or no line during that time.
Please stay in the car rider line rather than pulling into the parking lot to walk your child in. If you arrive after 8:30, please park and walk your child inside to check in as tardy. Staying in line before then helps keep the entrance clear for everyone.
Thank you for your patience and for helping us give every Astronaut a smooth start to the school day!

5 Days of Dress-Up Fun
Students may participate by bringing an unopened bag of candy and dressing up for the daily theme. This is an OPTIONAL, fun way to help our Title 1 school prepare for our Haunted Halls of Learning Night. All participation is strictly optional, and we will have more dress-up days for Red Ribbon Week that will not require donations.
Book Character Pumpkin Challenge Returns!
Bring a favorite children’s book to life with a pumpkin! Families can decorate one together at home, or a whole class can work together on an entry. You may use a real or fake pumpkin, but the finished creation must still be a pumpkin and show a character or theme from a children’s book.
Please bring your pumpkin to school by October 21. We’ll share the entries on social media for voting and give awards in a variety of categories, with fun prizes for our winners. We can’t wait to see what our Astronauts create!
