Multigenerational Worship Service This Week Multigenerational Worship Service This Week

No Religious Education classes this Sunday

This Sunday is our annual Water Communion worship service. This is a multigenerational service, so the children and youth stay in the worship service the whole time and there are no religious education classes. The nursery will be open for children ages 4 and under.

For this worship service, you are invited to bring water from your summer (from a literal or metaphorical journey) if you like.

September dates to put on your calendar:

  • 9/8: multigenerational worship service for Water Communion (no Religious Education classes). 12:45 High School Soul Matters meeting to reflect on the theme of the month.
  • 9/15: first full religious education classes of the year. RE Volunteers dedicated in the worship services.
  • 9/22: RE classes continue, High School group meets at 12:30 for covenanting and group fun.
  • 9/27-9/29: UU Puget Sound Middle School Con (see below for registration info)

High School Group Begins This Sunday

High School group will meet at 12:45 (ish - following the welcome for Rev. Gear) for their first meeting of this church year.

They will be exploring the theme of the month: Expectations. All youth 9th-12th grades are invited!

Back to School Blessings

On my mind today: how much I love seeing your back to school pics and how much I love your kids—all our kids. May they be kind to themselves as well as to others. May they be challenged and delighted as their potential unfolds. May they be safe and resilient. May they travel through joyful and difficult days with friends and all the support they need to grow.

Child Dedications

Are you interested in having your child(ren) dedicated at OUUC? Unlike a Christian-style baptism, most UU congregations do a Child Dedication, a ritual crafted by the minister and the parents to dedicate the adults and the congregation to the support of the child.

If you are interested in having your child(ren) dedicated at OUUC, contact Sara at dre@ouuc.org

Coming of Age

Coming of Age is a Mentored Rite of Passage Program. Mentors are adult role-models who accompany the youth on this journey, with a large change this year – a team of mentors will jointly mentor all the youth rather than one-on-one. The whole group meets once a month, with some personal work the youth will do on their own time as well. At the end of the year there is a retreat weekend involving a vigil/quest for the youth, and then all the youth will also deliver their credo speeches in a worship service. All youth who complete Coming of Age are eligible to become members of the congregation, if they choose to do so.

Coming of age is for youth in 8th grade and older, and it begins in October. To learn more

Teen Faith in Action Leadership Council

This year I'm very excited for a new program we are trying for teens ages 13-18: the Teen Faith in Action Leadership Council. Meetings will be held on the 1st Sunday of each month, 12:30-2pm, with a lunch provided. Drop-ins are welcome, no need to commit to the whole year.
