TCC Learning Commons - Resources to Maximize Student Learning and Understanding
Steele ECHS dual credit students. As the fall semester continues, I wanted to remind you of several key resources provided by TCC that can help you to maximize your learning and understanding of the content of your dual credit courses.
The TCC Learning Commons Labs and Tutoring Centers provide students with virtual tutoring as needed. Students can choose the subject as well as the specific course; you'll be able to select a Tutoring Center (Northwest when available) and then start an online tutoring session with no appointment needed. This could greatly benefit you if you're needing help with understanding a concept.
https://www.tccd.edu/academics/academic-help/labs-tutoring/https://www.tccd.edu/academics/academic-help/labs-tutoring/
Students can choose to attend these virtual appointments during Power Hour if you'd like. Specifically, you can sign-up with Mrs. Langston and conduct these sessions from my classroom if that's convenient for you.
Additionally, students can meet with their professors on-campus or virtually during their office hours.
If you have questions about this resource or need support in any of your dual credit classes, please feel free to see me.

SOS Signs of Suicide Program
Dear Parent or Guardian:
Each year, Northwest ISD recognizes the national suicide prevention month, September. During this time, secondary campuses utilize the SOS Signs of Suicide® prevention program to bring awareness of depression and prevention. The program aims to increase awareness and encourages students to seek help when they are concerned about themselves or a friend. The message of the SOS program is to A-C-T – Acknowledge the signs of depression or suicide; show you Care; and Tell a trusted adult.
In addition to the school program, the SOS Signs of Suicide® program also provides parents and caregivers information about our suicide prevention efforts and helpful tools for supporting your child’s mental health. Resources include information on spotting the signs, talking to your child, and reducing the risk. School personnel will NOT be utilizing any type of depression screening tool.
To access the SOS parent information: https://www.mindwise.org/parents/
Our Steele counselor, Mrs. Davis, will complete the SOS Signs of Suicide program during Power Hour on Wednesday, September 24th. If you have declined consent for counseling programming and services for your child, your child will NOT take part in the SOS Signs of Suicide® prevention program.
If you have yet to accept or decline counseling and support services in compliance with the new Senate Bill 12, you may complete the Counseling Consent Form here:
https://forms.nisdtx.org/Forms/Consent-to-Counseling-and-Support-Services
If you wish to change an already submitted form or discuss any concerns, please contact your child’s counselor before Friday, September 19th. Thank you for allowing us to partner with you in the awareness of youth depression and the prevention of suicide.
