Academic Updates Academic Updates

ELA with Mrs.Bouchard and Mrs.Pelletier

ELA is off to a fantastic start in Mrs. Bouchard’s and Mrs. Pelletier’s classrooms! Students are settling into routines and getting their brains warmed up each day with a Critical Thinking Journal. These quick-thinking challenges encourage students to think creatively, problem-solve, and get their brains ready to actively engage in the day’s learning.

We’ve also hit the ground running with vocabulary! Students are learning two new SAT words each day and have already successfully completed their first assessment on List #1. They’ve also figured out how to navigate our online GrammarFlip program and have tackled their very first lesson.

Coming up, we’re excited to dive into the world of Greek Mythology! Students will build the background knowledge they need to recognize and understand the many Greek myths and allusions they’ll encounter when we begin reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. We can’t wait to see where this adventure takes us!

Math with Mr.Petit and Mr.Cote

We have started Unit 1 on proportions, which we will be working on for the next few weeks. This unit covers unit rates, solving proportions, identifying proportional relationships using tables, equations, and graphs, and finding the constant of proportionality.

Science with Ms.Wurth, Ms.Roche and Mrs.Goodson

We have had a wonderful start to science this year! We have spent the first couple of weeks getting to know each other. Students set up their science notebooks and folders and started their first year long project called "Phenology of You." This project allows students to choose a special place in nature along the BMS woods path that they will be going back to each season to make observations and have their photo taken. We love to see how their space changes and they change as well! Check out some photos below!

This week students will also receive their first homework assignment. Homework will be assigned every other week on Monday and it will be due on Friday of that week. Please make sure to remind your student that this is a very important responsibility grade!

In addition to all getting to know each other, we have also been raising Monarch Butterflies in our classroom. Students have been enjoying watching the life cycle changes!

STEM + M with Mr.Long

Students have done a great job getting settled into the new STEM +M workspace with a push cart challenge. It's so nice to see their excitement and maturity working with new tech equipment in what feels like a real-world, professional setting.
