KISC Alumni Newsletter
October 2023
Welcome Note
After the long summer break, everyone at KISC has been busy during the Harvest Term. The monsoon is over and the warm, dry days are upon us.
Highlights of the Harvest Term have included the first KISC Swimming Gala for several years. It was great to be able to include the Swimming Gala in the school calendar again. See the photos on KISC Facebook.
This term also the hills have been alive with the ‘Sound of Music’. Students of all ages worked hard to prepare and present this classic musical. See the photos on KISC Facebook.
Other highlights have seen students taking part in an inter-school art competition, and the annual KISC basketball competition, the Zuala Cup, also took place this term. See the photos on KISC Facebook.
KISC also now has a ‘Green Team’, a new student body with representatives from each class, to help drive KISC’s Creation Care efforts and to help us to be more sustainable and responsible towards the environment.

Where are they now?
David Hamer
David was in Nepal from April 2015 to Dec 2020 and served as Head of Secondary during that time. David and his wife, Elizabeth, lived through some trying times while they were in Nepal. They arrived just 12 days before the 2015 earthquake and left as COVID gripped the world.
The other major event that David was involved in was to help oversee the move from the previous site in Dhobighat to the current Thecho site. Transferring and establishing the Secondary School in the new buildings in Thecho was a serious effort! He says he is very happy to see how things have developed on this site over the years since they left.
David and Elizabeth live in Melbourne, Australia. They are happy spending time when possible with their family: children and grandchildren. They are involved in their local church and on the church council where David is responsible for governance policy. David is also on the board of the Australian Institute of Archaeology. Together they enjoy spending time in their garden and looking after their bees and hens.
David and Elizabeth are also involved in running a Melbourne-based prayer group for Nepal. This group, which meets monthly, has been running since 1911 and they feel privileged to be part of it now, carrying on a long-standing tradition of prayer for Nepal in Melbourne. Currently there are about 10 people meeting regularly to pray.
Welcome back, Shreeyash
Shreeyash Shrestha – graduate of the class of ’21 – recently visited KISC and generously gave up a lot of his holiday from university to use his music production skills for the benefit of KISC students. Among other things, helping out at the Sound and Lighting Elective, teaching songwriting and music production to Grades 7&8, and repairing some of the musical instruments kept him busy until he returned to the USA to take up his 3rd year of studies in Music Production at Los Angeles College of Music. Thanks Shreeyash!
KISC EQUIP
The KISC EQUIP team have been traveling a lot recently. The team have visited all the three current project areas of Lamjung, Rukum and Sihara. In Rukum, 10 additional schools have been added as EQUIP partner schools thanks to a new project initiated in the area. See the photos on KISC Facebook.
Classroom library appeal: The whole KISC community raised an amazing Rs 209,198 for classroom libraries. That’s enough for 40 classroom libraries which will be given to KISC partner schools in our project areas.
