Family Newsletter

February 12, 2026
We are excited to announce that student registration for the 2026-2027 school year will officially open on February 23rd! Please review the following information to ensure a smooth registration process for your family.
Kindergarten Eligibility Children who will be five years of age on or before September 1, 2026, are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten for the upcoming school year.
New vs. Returning Student Portals To streamline the process, we have two distinct registration pathways:
New Student Portal: For families brand new to District 13.
Returning Student Portal: For any student currently enrolled in D13 during the 2025-2026 school year.
Important Note for Transitioning Students If your child currently attends a D13 school, they are considered a returning student. You should use the Returning Student Portal even if your child is moving from one building to another (for example, moving from DuJardin Elementary to Westfield Middle School OR moving from Preschool at Erickson to Kindergarten at Erickson or DuJardin).
Letter from the Principal
Dear Erickson Families,
Valentine's Day is Saturday, February 14th and at Erickson we LOVE to create fun experiences for students! We will have our annual PTO Valentine's Day parties on Friday, February 13.
- We will have our annual PTO Valentine's Day parties on Friday, Feb. 13. (If you are a parent volunteer for a party, please allow your child to dismiss at 3:30. If you are changing from bus to pick up, please let the office know. We take student whereabouts very seriously and want to make sure they are safe.)
- Morning Kindergarten and Preschool parties will be at 10:15-11:15
- Preschool through 5th grade afternoon parties will be from 2:15-3:15
- Students can bring in valentines to pass out to classmates. They can bring in a packaged food item (ie- sucker) or non-food item to accompany the valentine that will go home. Teachers will communicate if there are food allergies (ie- nuts) in the classroom so you know what not to purchase if your child chooses to participate in passing out valentines.
5Essentials Parent Survey
One of the ways we get feedback is through the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. Every year, parents are able to take the survey to let us know how we are doing as a school. Your feedback is important.
The survey should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Our goal is to get 40% of our parents/guardians to take the survey. Click here to take the survey. Please complete the survey by March 13th. Thank you for your time!
If your child will be absent from school, please call the office 630-529-2223 or email the Attendance Email: erattendance@sd13.org by 9:00am. Also, if you are changing your child's dismissal plan, please call the office by 2:00. Phone calls after 2:00 can not always be relayed to the student.
Please reach out if you have any question or concerns. The best way to reach me would be via email or phone: sjohnston@sd13.org or 630-529-2223.

From Nurse Kassy - February is Dental Health Month
February is National Dental Health Month and we are celebrating over at Erickson! Here are some tips and facts about keeping your child’s teeth healthy.
Follow the 2-2-2 rule! Brush your teeth two times a day for two minutes and visit your dentist twice a year.
Watch what you eat. Tooth decay affects 3 out of 5 children. Get those fruits and veggies in!
Help your child floss daily, especially between those back teeth. Brushing alone misses 40% of the tooth and floss helps get those pesky last spots.
Dental health and oral hygiene can also help prevent illness. Brushing your teeth and cleaning your mouth daily can kill germs that cause colds and flu by reducing the load of harmful bacteria and viruses in the mouth, which in turn reduces strain on the immune system.
