CONSTRUCTION TRADES CLASS CONSTRUCTION TRADES CLASS

The Sturgis Brown High School Construction Trades class taught by Marco Marolt, recently hosted business partners from the Construction Trades Workforce Connections (CTWC), of the Black Hills. Business representatives shared construction trades career information and employment opportunities. SBHS students showcased the work completed on the chicken coops they are building and had the opportunity to test their skills on the backhoe and excavator simulator. Additionally, the CTWC donated concrete tools, shovels, electrical boxes and wires, and other materials to the Construction Trades program at SBHS. The chicken coops are for sale; if interested, contact Mr. Marolt at marco.marolt@k12.sd.us

Area businesses representing the CTWC included Scull Construction, South Dakota PHCC, Complete Contracting Solutions, Dean Kurtz Construction, Bierschbach Equipment and Supply Kilowatt Electric, Western Construction, Inc., Midwestern Mechanical, Western States Fire Protection Company, Heavy Constructors, Inc., Black Hills Home Builders Association, Associated General Contractors of South Dakota, and Black Hills Federal Credit Union.

On Thursday, May 2, 2024, the Construction Trades class had the opportunity to tour the construction site at SBHS. The students were able to observe the setting of the HVAC system by an 80-foot crane. They also toured the addition and learned about all of the different trades involved in the building of the new lunchroom/kitchen.

SUMMER SCHOOL SUMMER SCHOOL

Summer School is set up as an independent study program for those who wish to earn or recapture credits. Students will be assigned a teacher who will assist students with questions and tutoring they require.

Students who take summer school courses must be motivated, be able to comprehend what they read, and work independently. The work at SBHS Summer School is rigorous and takes self-discipline and motivation. The teachers are here to help you reach your goals; please feel free to ask questions at any time. What you get out of this experience depends on what you put into it. We have many unique opportunities and hope you will take advantage of them.

Classes Start May 28th and end June 27th. All course work must be completed by June 27th. Summer school hours are Monday work independently from home, Tuesday - Thursday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
