Term 4 Week 1
Ag Day is underway, actually it is almost over, and there is a great vibe out on the field: animals, children, adults, and more! It is a fantastic day that truly showcases the epitome of our Awakeri community—bringing so many people together to celebrate our local agricultural heritage, economy, and history. It remains one of the main highlights of our school year that anyone can get involved in. The calves are all well presented and looking great. So much effort goes into rearing these animals and preparing them for Ag Day, let alone getting them here on the day! Our dog section is also behaving well, with a variety of sizes and breeds on show. The pets are happily spending time at school and enjoying being pampered. Our indoor show creations were impressive and showed an immense amount of thought and effort from students and teachers. We are a creative bunch at Awakeri. The sunflower challenge was a new initiative and there were some beautiful exhibits.
There are so many people to thank for our Ag Day organisation. A long list of sponsors is behind us, and we are very grateful for their support. Missy Shove and Lauren Kissick have worked hard to seek sponsors, gather prizes, and so much more—we thank them for their time and effort. We also thank our Ag Day committee for pulling everything together, as well as Brigette Davidson, who managed all entries and organisation for Ag Day and Group Day this year—a massive job!
Once Ag Day and Group Day are ticked off, we move into our Halloween Disco, Mega Garage Sale, Athletics and much much more.
Our mega garage sale is happening on Saturday, 31st October! Please get behind this event and lend a hand where and when you can. We will be calling for volunteers next week to help set up on Thursday 29th and run the stalls on Saturday 31st.
If you have items to donate, our garage sale shed behind Room 16 is open now, or you can drop donations off directly at the Events Centre on Thursday 29th.
Term 4 is extremely jam-packed with school events, trips, and opportunities. Please make sure that you keep up to date via School Apps and newsletters. All information and notifications are sent through these channels to keep you informed and to seek assistance where needed. Our teachers work extremely hard and go above and beyond to organize learning experiences and end-of-year trips, so please support them by being prompt with responses and form filling.
Kārearea is building up to their end-of-year camp in Wellington. This is going to be an amazing experience with so many positive benefits, and lifelong memories will be made.
Year 2 Parents: Next year, your child will be a Year 3 student in the Kiwi team, which means they will be going on their first overnight camp. All overnight camp helpers MUST be police vetted via Awakeri School. If you haven’t completed a police vetting form yet, please collect one from the office or download it from the NZ Police website. Completed forms, the $8.50 fee, and the required ID must be provided to our school office by Friday, 6th November to ensure they are processed in time. Forms lodged in February will not be processed in time.
It is hard to believe that we are in the final term of the year. What a great, but busy, year it has been—with so much more to come!
Thank you for your support so far and for the support you offer for the remainder of the year.
Ngā mihi

Awakeri Garage Sale - Saturday 31st October
The garage sale shed is ready and waiting for your quality donations. This holiday break is a great time to start sorting the things you no longer need or use. Drive down the back driveway of the school and the first garage, next to the containers, is ready for you.
It is helpful if items with lots of pieces, instructions of remotes are bagged or taped together.
No worn shoes, stained clothes or mouldy items.
Attendance
The graph below shows our school's attendance for this term. Moving forward, we will share a weekly update as we strive to meet the government's target of 80% of students attending school more than 90% of the time.
Important Reminder: If your child is going to be absent, please let the office know by 9:15 AM.
Camp Dates for Teams 2027
We know that the beginning of the year is hectic so here are the tentative team camp dates, specific classes are unknown at this stage.
Remember you must have a current Police Vetting Certificate through Awakeri School to be a parent helper on camp. These must be completed, paid for and filed at the school office by FRIDAY NOVEMBER 6th. There are no exceptions for anyone wanting to attend camp without this check in place.
We can not give anymore information yet as classes are not confirmed until much later in the year. There are no camps for a week either side of Top School which is on Sunday 14th March.
Kiwi Camps: 22nd February to 5th March
