A classroom where each person feels important, respected and accountable provides the foundation for successful learning. If a classroom has cohesion, the students relate to each other positively, engage in lessons more actively, and eventually learn more.

It's not simply about the physical appearance of your classroom, but also about each individual feeling valued, respected, and comfortable enough to form strong relationships. Many students need to be taught how to act and treat others. Often, they have only been told how not to act toward other people.

Rather than spending the year hoping your students will thrive, spare your sanity and build character by carefully crafting your expectations so they meet the social and academic needs of each learner.

The goal is a successful learning community where children feel important. Create an atmosphere where they, as individuals, feel vital to the group as a whole. Classroom cohesion movement activities are ways to build relationships all year long. And the perfect chance to double dip! They provide the students a physical boost to the school day AND increase class cohesion. These activities can and should be done all year long, not just at the beginning of the school year.
