Scenes around the District Scenes around the District

Pumped Up for School

September is Attendance Awareness Month, and Howard B. Stroud Elementary students and staff got their groove on during the school's annual Attendance Pep Rally. To have Thriving Students, we must have Present Students, and CCSD encourages families to be partners with us in promoting great attendance habits. Students being present at school means students preparing for success in and out of the classroom. Daily instruction in subjects such as math, reading, science, and social studies go a long way toward ensuring our students remain on track to earn their diploma and have the best opportunities available to them upon graduation. Every. Day. Counts.

Family Connections

Elementary schools throughout the district are continuing the tradition this year of holding grade-level parent/guardian breakfasts where families can come eat with their student and get updates on what their students are working on at school. Here's a snapshot of the recent kindergarten parent breakfast at Whitehead Road Elementary.

On Display

Barrow Elementary put its own twist on "Curriculum Night" with a Hot Dog Supper and Classroom Showcase. Students were able to share their classwork with their families, present their self -portraits, and lead their families around the school, while teachers and families had time to chat informally.

Music and Movement

During the recent professional learning day at the Office of Early Learning, members of the Cedar Shoals High School band got everyone in the right frame of mind with a fun performance.

Update on School Safety Update on School Safety

At the Thursday, Sept. 12 Clarke County Board of Education meeting, district officials presented an update on school safety – including an overview of the Centegix crisis alert system and how the badges all CCSD staff have function when activated. The presentation also included an overview of recent surveillance and security upgrades, annual safety training that schools and district staff go through, and additional measures that are taken as we make every effort to ensure that our school campuses remain safe. You can view the presentation in the video below and also find a copy of the presentation attached as a PDF file.

It is also another mechanism for us to celebrate good deeds or achievements by our staff members and students that may have gone unreported but deserve recognition and celebration. Tips can be submitted online at www.clarke.k12.ga.us/tipline or by phone by dialing 706-353-1737.
