A message from Miss Remillard

The school year is off to a fun and exciting start at George Washington School (GWS). We are looking forward to another year full of learning and fun! At GWS we incorporate our Positive Behavior and Supports (PBIS) in our educational program.

GW promotes a "Skill of the Month" that aligns with social and emotional learning standards. In September we celebrated our 3 B's: Be Respectful, Be in Control, and Be Ready to Learn! Please see links in our newsletters for parents to reinforce these skills at home!

Each month our newsletter will showcase our Students of the Month. These students have been nominated by their teachers for showing exemplary behavior and being a role model at GWS. Congratulations to our winners and we cannot wait to see who is nominated next month!

Please be advised that we follow the Averill Pack School Calendar for school closings and delays. We will be providing memos and notes home as reminders for closing, so be sure to check your child's bookbag. We will also be using the School Messenger System to relay important information via phone call, text message and email.

Promoting Literacy Skills at GW

George Washington School is devoted to promoting and developing literacy with our students. The Books Bucks Program reinforces students who go above and beyond with books! Getting caught reading earns your child a book buck! We are also expanding our vocabulary with “Word of the Week.” Our “WOW” is posted and reviewed daily to improve vocabulary skills. Please take time to ask your child how many books bucks they've earned or the meaning of our "WOW."

GW PARENT LITERACY CORNER

Go on an Alphabet Hunt: Take notice that letters are everywhere! Inside or outside, explore with the child while looking for words and letters. When the child sees a letter, have them point to it and say the letter out loud. Can you find them all, A to Z?

Tips for Parents: Summer Provides Time to Reinforce Positive Behaviors at Home

Experts in education use a framework for creating a positive environment called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS has been implemented in more than 26,000 U.S. schools. The PBIS framework has been shown to decrease disciplinary removals and improve student outcomes, including grades and graduation rates.
