From the Principal – Celebrating Students, Community, and Fall
Hello Riverview Families,
As we move further into October, I want to pause and share just how thankful we are for our amazing students and families. Your support, encouragement, and involvement make Riverview such a special place to learn and grow. Every day, we see Falcons thriving because of the strong home–school partnership we share.
We are especially excited to come together this week at our Fall Festival on Friday, October 10th! This event is sure to be the highlight of the season, and we look forward to seeing our community gather for fun, laughter, and celebration.
Thank you for being an essential part of what makes Riverview shine. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Urban
Riverview Principal
Fall Parade & Classroom Parties – Important Information
We are so excited to celebrate fall with our annual Classroom Parties and Parade on October 31st! This is always a special time for students, and our top priorities are safety, supervision, and fun.
Parties & Parent Volunteers
-
Teachers will send out party sign-ups on Monday, October 6th at 4:00 p.m.
-
Each classroom will be limited to 5 parent volunteers.
Parents who are volunteering will have to sign in at the front office
-
No siblings or pets are allowed at parties.
Party & Parade Times
-
Parties will take place from 2:45–3:15 p.m.
-
The Parade will begin at 3:20 p.m. out in front of the building. Students will exit on the east side, walk around the front, and re-enter on the west side before dismissal.
Costume Reminders
Students can bring their costume for the party and parade
-
Students should be able to change into costumes independently.
-
Please avoid face makeup, weapons, anything gory, or costumes that are not appropriate for elementary school.
Dismissal & Parking
-
No early checkouts after 3:00 p.m.
-
Normal dismissal procedures will be followed.
-
Please notify the office of any dismissal changes in advance.
-
Parking will be limited. Please only park in designated areas. Do not park in the dismissal loops by the curbs, as this blocks buses and traffic flow.
We look forward to a festive afternoon filled with smiles, costumes, and community fun! Thank you for helping us make this celebration a success!
Veteran's Day Assembly
We are looking forward to our annual Veteran’s Day Assembly! In preparation for that, Mrs. Seyb is collecting new and updated entries for our annual Veteran’s Day Assembly slideshow. If you have a Veteran in your family and would like to honor them on the big screen, please see the flyer attached for more information. All slideshow entries are due by Thursday, October 16th.
New this year: If you intend to bring a veteran to be introduced, please RSVP by Tuesday, November 4th. Please use this link to register.
Attendance & Punctuality Reminders
- Our doors open for students at 8:30 AM, and classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:45 AM.
- Please help remind your child to be in their seat and ready to learn by 8:45—every minute counts, and there is so much exciting learning to be done each day!
- If your child will be absent, please notify both the office and their classroom teacher. Consistent attendance and on-time arrivals help set students up for success.
Connect, Align, Grow
At Riverview, our Connect, Align, and Grow goals aren’t just for school, they thrive when our whole community is part of the journey.
-
Connect: Building strong, trusting relationships between students, staff, and families helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
-
Align: Working together—home, school, and community, means students hear consistent messages and expectations wherever they go.
-
Grow: When we nurture curiosity, resilience, and responsibility, students become confident learners and caring citizens who make a difference in our community.
GROW – Showing Gratitude
At Riverview, we know that gratitude helps students grow into caring and resilient people. When children take time to notice and appreciate the people, places, and experiences around them, they build a stronger sense of empathy and joy. Gratitude not only lifts their own outlook, but it also strengthens our school community. Simple words like “thank you,” writing a note of appreciation, or sharing something they’re grateful for can go a long way in spreading positivity.
How Families Can Help This Week:
Take a few minutes each evening to ask your child, “What’s one thing you were thankful for today?” You might be surprised by the small, meaningful moments they choose to share. Consider starting a family gratitude jar or journal where everyone can contribute. Together, we can help our Falcons grow in thankfulness and kindness.
Counselor's Corner
“Kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give.” – Unknown
This month our character trait focus is on Kindness.
Celebrations & Shoutouts
This Week, We Celebrate Our AMAZING Shawnee Fire Department
Thank You, Shawnee Fire Department!
A big Falcon thank you to the Shawnee Fire Department for visiting Riverview this week! Our primary students had such an exciting time learning about fire safety, exploring the equipment, and hearing directly from our community heroes about the important work they do every day. The firefighters were patient, engaging, and answered so many curious questions from our students. We are grateful for their time, dedication, and the vital role they play in keeping our community safe!
USD 232 IPS Advisory Committee
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
USD 232 is forming an IPS (Individual Plan of Study) Advisory Committee this fall to gather input into our district wide vision, strategies, and programs that support students’ postsecondary success.
This committee will include staff, students, and parents, and we hope to secure representation from every school in the district. Members will meet 4–6 times during the school year, with the first meeting planned for late October.
We are fortunate to have a strong and supportive community, and we anticipate that many individuals may be interested in serving. If you would like to be considered for this important committee, please complete the application linked below:
Because space on the committee is limited, not all who apply may be selected. If you are chosen to serve, we will contact you with the time and date of the first meeting.
Thank you for your interest in supporting this meaningful work. Together, we can strengthen opportunities and success for every student.
Riverview Site Council
Every elementary school in Kansas is required to have a Site Council which is a team of parents, staff, and community members who work together to support school improvement. Site Council members provide input on student learning, school goals, and accreditation efforts, and they serve as an important link between home, school, and the broader community.
At Riverview, our Site Council plays a key role in shaping the work we do to help every Falcon succeed. We invite any interested parents or community members to join us this year. Your voice and perspective make a difference!
If you’d like to get involved, please complete the interest form here: https://forms.gle/opR8u61rrhuknE2F7
Nurse Updates
A nurse is now available in the office, so please feel free to call or stop by if you need to:
-
Drop off medications or medication orders
-
Inform us of any new health conditions
-
Provide updated immunization records (especially if your child is new to Riverview)
-
Submit a physical exam form (required if your child is attending a Kansas school for the first time and is 8 years old or younger)
We also recommend keeping a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents and spills—especially during lunch—are common, and we may not always have extra clothing in the right size.
If you prefer, you may also email our nurses directly:

Nancy Tausz – ntausz@usd232.org
Visitor Management System
Student and staff safety is always our top priority. Riverview will continue using the Centegix Visitor Management System this year, following district safety guidelines. All visitors must check in through the office with a valid photo ID. The ID will be scanned into the system and a visitor sticker with your photo will be printed. This sticker must be worn and visible at all times while in the building.
For the safety of everyone, no visitor will be allowed in the building without a valid ID. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to maintain a secure learning environment for our Falcons.
Arrival/Dismissal
Car Loop Reminder
Please remember to have your student’s name clearly displayed during car loop pick-up. Since staff members rotate and substitutes occasionally cover, having names visible before you pull up to the cones helps us quickly identify students and ensure they are ready when you arrive. This small step keeps the process running smoothly and efficiently for everyone. Thank you for helping us keep the process safe, smooth, and speedy for everyone!
Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table!
For your convenience, we have a Drop-Off Table located just inside the front doors. If your student forgot something, like their lunch, instrument, glasses, or any other classroom item, you can simply buzz in, drop it off, and be on your way. No need to sign in or go through the visitor management system. Just remember to write your student’s name on the sticky notes provided so we can make sure it gets to them quickly. Thank you for helping keep our drop-offs smooth and efficient!
