Message from the Principal, Dr. Sterling H. Seemans Message from the Principal, Dr. Sterling H. Seemans

Bulldog Community,

Hispanic Heritage Month provides our school community with an important opportunity to celebrate the history, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. In our schools, however, this recognition is about more than celebrating accomplishments from the past. It is about ensuring that our Hispanic and Latino students see themselves, their families, their cultures, and their experiences valued as meaningful parts of our school community. At Brandywine High School, we have an amazing and diverse student body. The beauty of this school is how wonderfully our students come together and not just accept one another, but lift one another up.

Every student deserves to walk through our doors knowing that they belong and that who they are matters. By intentionally recognizing and celebrating our Hispanic and Latino students, we strengthen that sense of belonging while giving all students opportunities to learn from the diverse perspectives and experiences of their classmates. During Hispanic Heritage Month, I encourage our entire Brandywine school community to celebrate not only the contributions of Hispanic and Latino leaders throughout history, but also the students and families who enrich our school each and every day.

All The Best,

Dr. Sterling H. Seemans

Principal

BHS Teachers Academy Students Visit Lombardy Elementary

Learning to Teach by Teaching!

Our Brandywine Teacher Academy students took their learning beyond the classroom with a special visit to Lombardy Elementary School!

Our future educators first worked with 1st-grade students before switching classrooms to spend time with Kindergarten students. Each Teacher Academy student partnered with a small group of 2–4 young learners to:

Read a story together

Discuss the book and build comprehension

Create a drawing connected to the story

It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain hands-on experience working with young learners, while giving Lombardy students some extra one-on-one attention, conversation, and creativity!

We love seeing our Bulldogs developing the skills to become the educators of tomorrow!

Attendance Calls Are Back

When the State of Delaware required all school districts to transfer student information platforms to switch from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus starting in the Summer of 2025, we were unable to keep the service where parents received attendance calls. Starting earlier this week, BSD was able to bring this service back. Parents have started to receive these calls when their student has missed 1 or more classes due to an absence. Should you receive this call parents are encouraged to follow the steps below should they have questions:

  • If you believe there is an error and would like it corrected, please email our attendance secretary Lisa Calles (lisa.calles@bsd.k12.de.us) and/or the teacher from the class they are absent from. Staff emails can be found at this link: https://brandywine.brandywineschools.org/about-us/staff-directory
  • If it is true and you would like to submit documentation, please send in a note and/or complete the electronic absence request form by visiting the link: https://www.brandywineschools.org/students-families/absence-request-form
  • If you want to check to see if your student is present in the building, please call the main office

Parents are always encouraged to submit an absence request form for any current or planned absence. Attendance is extremely important and any student with more than 14 day absent can be considered truant.

BHS Bulldog Breezeway Project

We're updating the breezeway window designs and want to feature our amazing Brandywine High School students! Students need to complete the application below, which does include an essay question. We are looking for all student athletes and those who participate in Marching Band, Color Guard, drama/arts, and unified sports. Students can submit a photo or elect to have one taken of them. Applications need to be submitted by Friday, October 16. Winners will be announced via our social media platforms in November. Should you have any questions, please reach out to our Principal, Dr. Seemans (sterling.seemans@bsd.k12.de.us).

Advertise on Bulldogssports.com!

Brandywine High School Athletics is offering local businesses the opportunity to advertise on our athletics website, bulldogssports.com, during the 2026–2027 school year.

Our website is regularly visited by students, families, staff, alumni, and community members looking for team schedules, rosters, scores, results, and photos. For $500, a business advertisement will rotate on the main page throughout the school year and can link directly to the business’s website or a promotional coupon page.

If you own a business or know of a local business that may be interested in advertising and supporting Brandywine Athletics, please share the attached sponsorship form with them. This is a great way for businesses to promote their services while supporting our student-athletes and athletic programs.

Completed forms, payments, and advertisements can be submitted to me. Ads should be sent as a JPG file to darren.schulke@bsd.k12.de.us.

Thank you for helping us spread the word and for your continued support of Brandywine High School Athletics!

Go Bulldogs!

Counseling Corner

Throughout the year, the College & Career Center (C3) will offer visits from various colleges, trade schools, workforce, apprenticeships, military branches, and other programs. These visits are open to all students and sign-ups are in Scoir on the calendar. Students can show their teacher their sign-up as confirmation and their pass to attend. Stop by the C3 during your lunch if you need help with signing up.

Panorama Survey At BHS

Thank you for being our partners as we work together to educate and support your children.

As we enter another year of participating in the Panorama Survey, we continue to prioritize developing social-emotional learning skills as an important goal for our school district. We will ask students in Grades 6–12 to reflect on their mindsets, learning approaches, and school experiences through an online survey completed at school. The survey should take approximately 20–30 minutes.

The survey has two parts and asks students to reflect on the following areas:

  • Part 1: Sense of Belonging, Expectations, and Classroom Learning Strategies
  • Part 2: Mental Health, Diversity and Inclusion, and Cultural Awareness and Action

We are asking all students to participate. Their responses will provide valuable insight into their experiences and help us identify ways to improve as a district. Panorama safeguards student privacy and keeps individual responses confidential.

The administration schedule and parent/guardian opt-out deadlines are:

  • Grade 9: October 12–16
    Opt-out deadline: October 5
  • Grade10: November 9–13
    Opt-out deadline: November 2
  • Grades 11 and 12: November 16–20
    Opt-out deadline: November 9
  • Makeup administration: November 30–December 4
    Opt-out deadline: November 23

If you do not want your child to participate, or if you have additional questions, please contact Mrs. Adrienne Stansbury at adrienne.stansbury@bsd.k12.de.us by the deadline providing your child’s name and grade level. Students who are absent during their scheduled survey window may participate during the makeup period. The survey questions are available for families to preview on our website:www.brandywineschools.org/panorama.

Hall Sweeps at BHS

Brandywine High School conducts hall sweeps each day at:

  • 7:30 AM
  • 9:05 AM
  • 12:50 PM

Students should be inside their assigned classroom by these times and prepared for learning.

Moving forward, students identified during a hall sweep will progress through the following consequences:

  • First Offense: Documented Warning
  • Second Offense: Lunch Detention
  • Third Offense: After-School Detention
  • Fourth Offense: In-School Suspension (ISS)
  • Continued Offenses: Out-of-School Suspension (OSS)

The purpose of our hall sweeps is not simply to issue consequences. Our goal is to ensure that students are in class, on time, and ready to learn. Every minute of instructional time matters, and consistent punctuality helps students start each class successfully.

A special reminder for families of 10th-grade students enrolled in Driver Education: Being late to Driver Education can count against the student's attendance requirements for the course. Students are only permitted to miss two class periods, making it especially important that they arrive to class on time.

Please take a moment to speak with your student about the importance of arriving to class before the bell. We appreciate your partnership in helping us establish strong routines and expectations for a successful school year.
