Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
Our four-day week began our second quarter as BHS students returned from their four-day weekend with a little more energy! We continue to encourage students to stay on top of all of their work and to make sure they attend school every day. Sometimes, the most difficult part of the day is showing up, so please help our young people understand how important this is!
Next week, we will be celebrating Hope Week as we move into the final week in October. Please refer to the flyer in this newsletter to see how BHS students will be celebrating! We will be holding a mini trick-or-treating session during Advisory on October 30th as some of our staff members will be judging student costumes.
We hope you all find time to come out and celebrate tomorrow at 4 Bulldog! Our middle school PTO will be holding the craft fair, and our high school PTO will be holding a carnival/haunted house. You are welcome to wrap up the evening by supporting our High School Boys’ Soccer team, in their first round of tournament play, at Holman Stadium.
Mr. Buis has been sharing that he will be taking a paternity leave any day as he and his family welcome their new little one! We wish him and his wife all sorts of joy and health as their family gets to enjoy this precious time.
I wanted to let you all know that Mr. Phil Heflin, a retired administrator who has served in various Clermont County schools, will be filling in for Mr. Buis two-three days a week. Your students will get to know Mr. Heflin as he will be helping Mr. Moorehead and I throughout November and December.
We hope you get a chance to enjoy this beautiful weekend and can’t wait to welcome your students on Monday for the first day of Hope Week.
In service to our Bulldogs.

#EveryBulldogEveryDay
Hi, Bulldog Families.
As a reminder from last week. I will be taking paternity leave very soon as my wife and I are expecting our second child this fall. Have a great start to the second quarter!
While I am out, please reach out to Mr. Moorehead or Mrs. Conner if you need to contact an administrator. Have a great weekend!
Go Bulldogs!

Hello, Families.
The second quarter has started and the students are off to a great week. Mr. Buis and I spent time helping some students navigate their first quarter classes so that they understand the importance of earning their credits, especially our 9th graders as they transition from middle school.
Please talk with your students about driving safely this time of year as the length of daylight continues to decrease about 2 min/day until the winter solstice on December 21st.
Lastly, students need to park in their assigned parking spots unless a need arises due to a medical reason. Students can always communicate with me they need anything.
Thank you,
Joe Moorehead, Dean of Students

DECA Virtual Business Challenge : Fashion
Juniors Norah Riel and McKenzie Hammack are competing in the DECA Virtual Business Challenge Fashion Division. As part of this challenge, they designed clothing in the business simulation based on social media trends for their virtual community. After designing clothes they sourced materials, manufactured their designs, merchandised them in a simulated store and began selling to virtual customers. So far, their store has brought in more than $135,000 in profit. Norah and McKenzie closed out the first round of competition, and placed ninth in the State of Ohio. They will be moving forward to the second round in January. The top 25 teams in the country will compete at Internationals in April in Anaheim, CA. Good luck Norah and McKenzie!

The FAFSA Application opened October 1!!!!
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students entering or attending college for the 2027-28 academic year is up and running! Any student that is thinking about attending any type of education/training after high school should complete the FAFSA - technical school, trade school, community college, public university, or private university. The FAFSA is what determines your eligibility for student loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships - thus, it is VERY important that you complete and submit it. Keep in mind, all students are eligible for student loans! We will continue to share information and helpful resources with you and your family as we receive it!
The Ohio Department of Higher Education would like to share that the 2027-28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available for all families to complete. Families who want to start filling out the FAFSA now can start the process at studentaid.gov.
For additional assistance with FAFSA completion, please visit itsforyou.org.
