The year keeps rolling on!

It's hard to believe that we have finished three months of the year already! We've been blessed with some very nice weather this fall, and our students continue to take full advantage of it!

November saw the end of our volleyball seasons. All of our teams had great seasons, with many hard fought games and lots of learning and development. Our students represented continued to represent us well! Thank you to all of the coaches who give their time and efforts to support these teams.

Before the break, we gathered together to celebrate our 2022-2023 students who had achievements in academics, athletics and those who showed strong character. We were pleased to welcome back several of our students from last year.

As we move into December, our students have planned many great events for themselves. Make sure to continue to check out the school calendar for our events!

Awards Night! Awards Night!

On November 8th, we celebrated our students who showed excellence in many different areas of our school. Here are some photos of the awards winners from that night!

HLS Winter Semi-Formal HLS Winter Semi-Formal

On December 15th, our students in Grades 7-12 are invited to take part in the Winter Semi-Formal, a dance for our students hosted by our own Student Voice group. Students are encouraged to dress their best and bring a friend and attend!

Students are allowed to preregister one friend from their same age group. Friends should be able to produce a student ID when they arrive at the dance. If they do not have a student ID, HLS parents should reach out to Mr. MacKenzie to let them know.

As this is a school events, students are still expected to follow the expectations of the school, and this includes their guests. Any misbehaviour could lead to further discipline.

If parents are able to chaperone, please email Mr. MacKenzie to let him know!

Parent Volunteers for Field Trips and Sports Teams

As part of its administrative procedures, Battle River asks that any parent who wants to be a supervisor for a field trip or a sports team becomes an approved volunteer, also known as an Agent of the Board. Parents will need to provide a current criminal record check and a child vulnerable sector check. As these documents can take a bit of time to obtain, we are encouraging parents who think they might be able to supervise trips throughout the year to begin the process of becoming an Agent of the Board early.

If you are interested, please email Mr. MacKenzie and he will provide you with all of the information you need, along with a letter for you to take with you when you go to the police or RCMP to obtain your criminal record.
