The End of March Madness & the Final Marking Period The End of March Madness & the Final Marking Period

We made it! The 4th marking period is here and spring break is one week away! Let's all make the most of this week as we prepare for a time of rest and relaxation (and likely a final college visit or two!). For our seniors, take time to process your acceptances and make informed decisions about where you will head after graduation! Social Media posts quickly fade, but where you spend your next year, two, or four, will be a lasting choice. Talk over your options with trusted friends, family members, teachers and counselors. Check out this article that provides reflective questions to help you make a decision that is best for you: Facing the Fear: Am I Choosing the Right College?.

Dual enrollment on your mind? Please make sure you schedule an appointment with Ms. Allen or your school counselor if you are planning to take a dual enrollment course this summer or next year as part of your high school programming. The course selection window closed last month and we want ensure all information is accurate as we plan for the 2025-2026 school year!

College Spotlight: Colleges That Change Lives - CTCL College Spotlight: Colleges That Change Lives - CTCL

As final decisions were released this past week, discussions of low admit rates, who was accepted, and how much higher can sticker prices go (yes, Wellesley Surpasses $100K Sticker Price) dominated the conversations surrounding higher education. But, what if we focused less on numbers and more on the individual and how one can grow and change based on the institution they attend? Enter: Colleges That Change Lives. Consider this excerpt from their website:

CTCL was founded on a philosophy of building the knowledge, character and values of young people by introducing them to a personalized and transformative collegiate experience. Although the member colleges approach this challenge with varying perspectives, institutional missions, and pedagogical strategies, a student-centered mission is common to all campuses.

I was fortunate enough to visit three of these schools recently: Goucher College, McDaniel College, and St. John's College all located in Maryland. Each distinct with their unique offerings - Goucher students MUST study aboard during their time in college and Johnnies all graduate with the same degree after reading 200 Great Books - and each committed to transforming the lives of their students. Consider perusing these schools and questioning what it is that you truly want to gain from your/your child's postsecondary experience!
