March Updates

The weather is beginning to warm up and we are moving into the second half of the 23-24 school year. This means that we are getting closer to our annual state testing. I am excited to report that your children have made great progress so far this year.

One thing that contributes to this growth is the opportunity for teachers to collaborate. It has been a real support for us to be able to meet each Wednesday. We have been focusing on our writing goal and on “Targeted Instruction” based on the i-Ready diagnostic.

Many students have made great strides as we have been able to focus our efforts as a staff toward specific needs. Also, thank you for supporting your children in their learning by getting them to school as much as possible. As you may have heard MVES students attended school first semester 95% of the possible days. Attending regularly really helps children increase their skills and knowledge as they are able to receive instruction when it is initially given and they have all the time needed to master the standard(s) being taught.

One of the opportunities for growth in every grade at MVES is increasing our students’ vocabulary. One of the best ways to increase vocabulary is for children to read MORE!

We are just finishing up the book fair and I am excited to see you purchasing books for your children to read. I also have some books that are provided to families free of charge from the Extended Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP). I will be making available these available at drop off and pick up time. Please encourage at least 15 minutes of reading each day.

One way of connecting your children to the printed page and increasing their love of reading is to read with them. You might take turns reading or listen to them read. You may also enjoy reading to them. These activities have been shown to increase vocabulary, reading fluency, and speed.

As we head into the warmer weather, state testing, fieldtrips and field days, a talent show, and other fun and important things it will not always be easy. Here at MVES we are learning that one important thing about life is to learn to handle hard things well. As we all learn to be able to handle hard things well we will find more success in life.

One thing we can do to handle hard well is to keep going. When we refuse to give up we are becoming better able to handle hard things well.

#WHHW (We Handle Hard Well)

We love educating your children and appreciate all you do as well.

Thank you!
