As our Viking Community prepares for upcoming football games, THS Principal Kim Kirk would like to share the following expectations with our students and families:

Regular school attendance is essential for a child to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Being at school, on time, every day establishes the foundation for a successful future. The Bristol Tennessee Board of Education has established the district's Attendance Policies and Procedures, and each student's parent or legal guardian is held responsible for their regular school attendance.

Reporting an Absence

It is important to call our main office as soon as you know an absence is necessary. Our school has a 24-hour recording system!

We have shared a detailed Arrival and Dismissal Procedures document with families. While it is lengthy, please take a few minutes to read the entire document and share it with anyone who may drop off or pick up your child. These procedures are designed to keep our students safe and help traffic move as smoothly as possible.

Morning Arrival:
Our car line will split into TWO lanes once you reach the fenced area past the staff parking lot. Please choose a lane based on the direction you will turn when leaving campus:

• Left lane: Toward Walmart

• Right lane: Toward Bristol Motor Speedway

You do not need to wait for the doors to open or for the line to move before choosing your lane. This will help keep traffic moving efficiently.

Afternoon Dismissal:
Please do NOT block the right lane of the Avoca driveway. This lane must remain clear for buses to safely enter the school. Please follow the procedures in the document and enter the car line using the designated lane.

Thank you for your patience as we establish these routines and, most importantly, for helping us keep our Avoca Dragons safe! We appreciate your partnership and look forward to a great school year!

Avoca uses PikMyKid to help make dismissal safer, faster, and more organized. The app allows families to communicate dismissal changes, notify the school when they've arrived for pickup, and helps us ensure every student goes home with the correct person.

If you haven't already, please download the PikMyKid app and set up your account. When you arrive on campus, be sure to announce that you're here through the app so our staff can begin preparing your child for dismissal.

For everyone's safety, please have your car tag visible at all times during pickup. If you do not have your car tag, you will need to provide your student's PikMyKid ID so we can verify the correct student is being picked up.

Our Avoca Elementary PTA is an important part of our school community, helping bring families, teachers, and staff together to support our students and create meaningful experiences throughout the school year. The PTA provides opportunities for parents and families to get involved, volunteer, support school events, and help make a difference at Avoca. Avoca’s family engagement plan also highlights PTA participation as an important way for families to have a voice and be involved in our school community.

🍂 Fall Festival — Volunteers & Vendors Needed!

Mark your calendars for our Fall Festival on Saturday, October 24th, from 4:00–7:00 PM! 🎃

We are looking for volunteers to help with booths, games, and other activities, as well as vendors who would like to participate.

Canvas is where teachers share classroom announcements, assignments, learning resources, and communicate with students and families. Checking Canvas often is a great way to stay informed about what's happening in your child's classroom.

PowerSchool is where families can monitor grades, attendance, and other important student information. Reviewing PowerSchool regularly helps you stay up to date on your child's academic progress and address any concerns early.
