The Indiana state legislature dictates the referendum ballot question and gives a template that every school district seeking a referendum must adhere to.
Here's a breakdown.
I also want to directly address the $873 annual tax increase being circulated in recent campaign mailers. Presenting this figure as the increase Westfield homeowners will pay is misleading and inaccurate.
- The proposed referendum replaces our existing $0.17 operating referendum rather than being added to it.
- Individual tax impacts vary based on assessed property values, deductions, and applicable tax caps.
These are our schools, our students, and our community. The decision about their future belongs to Westfield.
- Have you used the calculator to see the estimated potential impact on your taxes?
- Do you feel well-informed about the referendum on the ballot this November?
- Have you seen the slides shared at State of the Schools?
- Do you have a voting plan?

As we approach Election Day on November 3, I want to share ten important things about the Westfield Washington Schools operating referendum and the return on investment our community receives from its public schools. Westfield has a proud history of investing in our schools. That investment has paid dividends, helping create the welcoming, vibrant community we enjoy today, where people want to live, raise families, and support one another. Excellent schools and an excellent community go hand in hand. Neither happens by accident.
WWS and the City of Westfield presented a proposed expansion of the School Resource Officer (SRO) program at the Oct. 13 Board meeting. The plan would provide dedicated SRO coverage at every school, specialized training, and additional supervision through a shared funding partnership. The Board approved the agreement, but implementation is contingent on voter approval of the Nov. 3 operating referendum.
