Daniel Webster Elementary School
Weekly Update:
The Daniel Webster School PTO Needs Your Help
The PTO is seeking members of our school community who would like to join our PTO Board!
Our children and school need your support to make the PTO succeed. The Daniel Webster School PTO helps foster social, cultural and educational enrichment of the students as well as promotes positive relationships among families, school and the community. The PTO supports our school with necessary supplies, enrichment programs, funds towards school field trips and so much more by working together and fundraising.
The PTO Board will have several open positions for next year. We have some current Board members that are moving on from DWS and some great current members that will be staying on, but all of the following positions are available. We will be holding nominations for those positions at our PTO Meeting, on April 1st, 2024. Voting to confirm those positions will take place at the PTO Meeting on May 6th, 2024.
Open positions are:
President(s) - Presides over meetings, agendas and coordinates with other officers and the principal.
Vice President(s) - Supports the president and carries out presidential duties in their absence.
Secretary(s) - Keeps a written record of all of the meetings. Minutes must be approved at a regular meeting before public sharing.
Enrichment Coordinator(s) - Organizes sponsored enrichment events for the school.
DEI Committee Liaison(s) - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - Attends and participates in DEI Meetings and communicates with the PTO board as needed.
Clothing Coordinator - (non-voted position) Coordinates school spirit wear as well as any staff clothing purchases requested.
Please consider joining us at our next meetings (February 5th & March 4th at 7:00pm in the DWS Library) for more information about the current available Board positions. You may come to listen or to ask any questions you may have.
If you ever have any questions or want more information, you may also email us at yourdwspto@gmail.com.

The benefits of reading at every stage of a child’s development are well documented; time spent reading is linked to higher academic performance across the board, better jobs, stronger social-emotional skills, and even longer lives. (Wow!) What makes reading so powerful? How does reading improve writing, and vice versa? And how can we, as parents and caregivers, spark reading and writing at home? Join writer and writing teacher April Jones Prince, author of You Are a Reader!/You Are a Writer! and many other books for children, for tips, tricks, and resources about raising readers and writers. Bring your questions and ideas for a lively discussion of literacy for learning—and life!

Taking A Closer Look At Anxiety
Anxiety is increasing among school aged children and often goes misunderstood or unnoticed. It can impact a student’s ability to perform optimally in the school and community environment. To support students with anxiety, we need to understand it ourselves. During this workshop you will learn about the different types of anxiety, how they impact a child’s performance and useful strategies to use and consider when raising a child with anxiety.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and light refreshments.
* If you require an interpreter, please note it on your registration no later than 2/12/2024
Sponsored by the Marshfield Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC)

Message from our School Nurse Mrs. Campbell
Happy New Year!
Cold and flu ( and every other illness) season is upon us! Here are a few helpful reminders to help this season:
The best defense against illness is good handwashing, adequate hydration and regular sleep. Encourage your kiddos to stay hydrated and rest to help prevent illness and when they are unwell to shorten the duration of the illness.
Please remember that if your child has been out sick they can return to school once they have been without fever, vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of medications and their overall symptoms have improved.
Please remember that attendance is closely monitored. If your child will be absent we have a Safe to School Protocol. Please notify the school and the nurse the morning that your child will not be in school. If your child has an illness or injury that results in an absence for 5 or more days- a doctor’s note must be sent in upon returning to class with any restrictions and appropriate dates.
Please be sure students dress in layers for school- they need winter gear for outdoor play, but inside the building can be very warm. If students do not have appropriate warm weather/snow gear their outside activities may be somewhat limited so they stay warm and safe.

Driveway Dismissal Safety
As a reminder, please adhere to the DWS Dismissal Protocols if you choose to pick up your child from school (listed below). Dismissal time can be very busy and we understand that we are the late school and families are often rushing off to afterschool activities. It has been reported that some cars are pulling in and doing a U-Turn in the driveway to cut the line. Please follow the protocol and the flow of traffic pictured below so we don't compromise the safety of our children. Thank you!
Dismissal
DWS hours are 8:50am-3:30pm. Students will begin car line dismissal at 3:25 pm.
If you arrive before 3:25, please remain in your vehicle.
Please do not park your vehicle in the live line.
In the car line, students will be dismissed in order of car line up through the gym doors.
Please follow staff directions and pull all the way up to the marked location (red circle).
Please wait for the car in front of you to pull forward. Do not attempt to pass vehicles.
Arrival & Dismissal Protocols
The policy can be found here.
