June 6, 2025

YCIS-SV CommunityConnectionJune 6, 2025

Dear YCIS Community,

Thank you for a wonderful year! From Sharing Our learning to the Spring Concert, TK and 5th Grade Moving-Up Ceremonies, end-of-year field trips, and class parties — we've wrapped up the school year with joy, reflection, and meaningful memories. This year, we’ve grown stronger as a community. Family Camping was a beautiful way to bring us even closer together, and we are so grateful for each of you — our dedicated teachers, curious students, and supportive families.

To those families who will be moving on this year, we send our big thanks and best wishes. We especially wish our students continued success and joy as they begin the next chapter of their educational journey at new schools. You will always be a part of the YCIS family.

To our returning families, thank you for your continued trust and partnership. We deeply appreciate your commitment to our school community, and we look forward to welcoming you back in August for many of you as we begin another exciting year of learning, growth, and shared memories together.

* For our ECE families, summer learning is still in full swing, and our K–8 Summer Camp begins next week!

As we reflect on this past year, we would greatly appreciate your feedback to help us continue growing together: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YCISparentsurvey2025

TK Field Trip to Happy Hollow

Happy Hollow Park and Zoo was the perfect destination for the TK end-of-year field trip, offering a day packed with joyous memories. The children's faces lit up with excitement as they engaged with fascinating animals at the zoo, petting the playful goats and witnessing the various birds, and even an alligator. Laughter echoed through the park as they zipped around on exhilarating rides with their friends, creating shared thrills and unforgettable moments. Beyond the attractions, the true magic lay in the simple pleasure of enjoying each other's company, strengthening bonds and celebrating a fantastic year of learning and growth.

Middle Schoolers Come to Play at the ECE Campus

We extend our gratitude to our amazing middle school students who brightened our ECE campus during Sneak Preview Day! While each grade from TK and up spent some time in the next grade level, our Middle School students were excited to come to the ECE campus to lead some activities. Their thoughtful efforts fostered a welcoming and joyful atmosphere in the gym and outdoors where they set up various obstacle courses for our Mars, Star, Moon, and Sun classes. Their leadership and willingness to connect with our youngest learners truly showcased the spirit of our school community. Thank you!

TK Visits Kindergarten

As the school year winds down, our delightful TK students are bubbling with anticipation for their next big adventures: Summer Camp and then Kindergarten! To help make this transition as smooth and exciting as possible, they've already spent some valuable time in the Kindergarten classrooms. They've had the chance to meet new teachers, explore the vibrant learning spaces, and engage in various fun activities, all designed to ease any worries and spark their enthusiasm for the wonderful journey ahead. It's an exciting time of growth and new beginnings for each and every one of them!

Share our Learning Day – Exploring the Concept of Change

On May 30, students across all grade levels showcased their learning around the central theme: “Exploring the Concept of Change” (統領性概念 – 改變). Through inquiry, collaboration, and creativity, they investigated how change occurs in nature, society, technology, and themselves. Projects included environmental solutions, scientific investigations, business ventures, and creative storytelling.

This day highlighted students’ ability to apply knowledge and develop lifelong skills such as problem-solving, communication, and innovation. The experience encouraged deeper thinking and real-world connections as they explored how change shapes the world—and how they can be agents of change.

The event was interactive, strengthening connections between school, students, and home. Parents engaged with students' work and shared their own lifelong skill tips, enriching the learning experience. This meaningful day celebrated not just academic learning, but also how families and schools can work together to support lifelong learning and empower students as active participants in a changing world.

Sneak Peek into the Next Grade!

As we approach the end of the school year, each grade level participated in special transition activities by visiting the next grade to get a glimpse of what’s ahead. Students met future teachers, explored new learning spaces, and discovered some of the exciting opportunities awaiting them next year. The experience sparked curiosity, built confidence, and created genuine excitement for the journey ahead.

YCIS House Event – Celebrating Our School Family

At YCIS, we believe our school is more than a campus — it’s a family. To strengthen bonds across grade levels and between siblings, we use a House System that builds strong relationships and fosters a true sense of belonging for every student.

Each House includes students from various grades, and is guided by Middle School student leaders. House families eat lunch together, engage in fun activities, and support one another throughout the year.

This week, we held our final House event of the year! All Houses came together to celebrate their spirit by creating unique House chains, performing original dances, and sharing creative slogans that represent their house spirit and teamwork.

What a joyful way to end the year—Go YCIS House Family!

Spring Concert & Art Show – A Joyful Celebration of Music and Creativity 春季音樂會暨藝術展——音樂與創意的盛會

This year’s Spring Concert beautifully showcased our students’ musical talents and dedication. The violin performances were full of emotion and skill, with students playing confidently and gracefully. We also enjoyed a heartfelt piano solo, lively drum accompaniment, and a special highlight — a duet with parents, playing piano hand in hand.

Alongside the concert, our Art Show displayed students’ class projects throughout the venue, celebrating their creativity and artistic growth.

It was truly one of the year’s most heartwarming events, bringing together music, art, family, and community.

感謝所有參與的學生、家長與老師,讓這場盛會充滿愛與感動!
Thank you to everyone who made this event so memorable!

Middle School (5th- 7th Grade) Middle School (5th- 7th Grade)

Our middle school students engaged in a hands-on Strawberry DNA Extraction Lab. Following the experiment, many expressed enthusiasm about continuing their exploration at home by trying DNA extraction using a variety of fruits and vegetables.

This lab experience built upon their prior knowledge of DNA and cell structure, helping to make the abstract concept of genetics more concrete and accessible. By visually observing DNA, the students deepen their understanding of complex scientific ideas.

The structure of these labs help support scientific thinking and inquiry. The students begin with pre-lab questions to activate prior knowledge presented in class, then they document the materials and methods, and conclude with post-lab reflection questions to analyze their observations and learning outcomes. This approach not only reinforces the scientific method, but also enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

YALP 游园会精彩回顾/遊園會精彩回顧

To wrap up another fantastic year, the YALP community came together for a vibrant and festive End-of-Year Celebration in the school courtyard. The event includes six lively game stations, a prize booth, and a popular Red Bean Shaved Ice Station run by our middle school students. Students played a variety of games of Bottle Push, Clown Bean Bag Toss, Ring Toss, Eye-Blinded Obstacle Challenge, Flying Pig Race, and Ping Pong Aim & Win. Laughter, cheers, and excitement filled the air and everyone embraced the spirit of the carnival-style afternoon.

A heartfelt thank you to the 14 amazing parent volunteers who helped run the game and prize stations. Your energy, enthusiasm, and support brought this event to life and made it extra special.

It was wonderful to see students and families connect and celebrate the end of another successful YALP year. Moments like these remind us of the strong and supportive community we’ve built together. Here's to another year of growth, learning, and fun ahead!

We wish you all a wonderful and relaxing summer break and look forward to welcoming you back in the new school year!
